I don't believe that Jesus would treat a divorced woman or man that way. Why is it that churches have that rule. Mostly from what I have seen Assemblys of God. Wasnt it Jesus that spoke to the woman at the well???...Didnt He state...Woman ...where are your accusers??...and she stated they were gone...Then Jesus stated that He didn't accuse her either....So..Why do the churches do that????

I'm not sure which church you're talking about, however, I know that my church does not discriminate in that way. I do know that some churches believe that there is no grounds for divorce except adultery. This may lead to the practice that you're describing. Because the divorced person is "unclean" and not fit for church, he/she cannot take part in it. I really don't understand it all myself, so I hope I helped-not made your confusion worse.

Maybe you're in the wrong denomination. Some churches have rules like this, but many are accepting of us all, although the good ones will have a safe sanctuary policy to protect kids for potential abusers.
Jesus was up for giving people second (and more) chances and would not condemn someone just for being divorced. Sometime people like any excuse to belittle and hold power over another. Shop around for a different church!

I have never heard of this. It must just be someones idea i mean like one pastor or something, I am a Baptist and i went to United Methodist as a kid and we had divorced people and what ever taught sunday school. A christian is a christian even if they are divorced. God would perfer we try too make our marriage work but he does say unfaithfulness by the spouse is a reason for divorce. etc. I would say its some thing some one decided on as a rule its not biblical. But it does say deacons etc should be the husband of one spouse so may this is where that came from.

First, the Bible (at least Peter, speaking as the founder of his church, which eventually became the Catholic Church) said it was wrong for a woman to speak in church. It's in the Bible!

1 Corinthians 14
34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

Second, Jesus said that except for adultery there should be no divorce.

Divorced men should not be allowed to teach or preach or speak any more than a divorced woman. That is only fair!

You should read about the Woman from Samaria, he said a few things to her as well.

Not all churches have that rule, but if divorce goes against their beliefs, then it's understandable. That person has chosen to go against their faith and should not be teaching in the church as she is not an example for the children or others to follow. She made her choice, for all choices and decisions in life there are consequences.

I think they get it from the Bible, it tells the qualifications of preaching/teaching ..

1 Timothy 3:12-13
12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

13 For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

many churches use this passage as to who they let preach or teach. because it says that you should be able to have your own house in order before dealing in God's house.
now, this is not ME saying these things, I am just telling you what most churches say concerning this matter, and the Scripture that they use to back it up.

I live in a city where the Church of God is prominent. The answer is simple. Some forms of christianity still see the woman as the inferior of the two sexes.

When you get married you are making a promise to god that you will spend the rest of your life with that other person. When you get divorced you are breaking a promise to god. So while you may take it personally, they are taking it as an insult as well. By looking for another church your pretty much deciding what is conveinent for you yet again...

There are different churches with different rules. Not all churches have rules of this sort. God doesn't like divorce. Most people who speak that are divorced don't promote it!

Okay, first, St. Mary Magdalen was not divorced. She was a prostitute and repented of her sin. To be willingly divorced is a sin because "what God joins together, let no man put asunder." Marriage is for life. Only in cases of adultery and physical abuse are man and woman allowed to separate and in such cases they are NOT allowed to remarry until their spouse dies. Remarrying when you are divorced is adultery. Someone who lives in this constant state of mortal sin cannot be relied upon to give good moral advice.
