Oh I dont think you should ever consider a date as a mandatory prelude to a relationship.

The best way to not alienate all the other girls in your group is to just make sure you go out to have fun. That way all that girl talk between themselves is limited to your being a lot of fun to go out with...and not..." he was getting all serious and stuff"

After you've gone out with a bunch of girls you can start to see what personality types you like the best...then you can start looking for that special someone that you want to spend "all" your time with. It may even end up being one of the first girls you went out with.

well, if you end breaking up, then yes, it was a good EXPERIENCE, from which one learns more about themselves and how other interact. However, I wouldnt go with the intention of 'practicing' because that already assumes that it's going to end, and that also may hurt the other person if they dont know your intention. That would be taking only your own feelings into consideration, and that's not what a relationship is about, it's about both people.
Sure, if it's agreed upon beforehand clearly by both parties, that's fine, because it can end mutually, or mutually become more serious.
But what do I know, I'm still in my first relationship for nearly five years, and I'm still head over heels, so I guess I dont have much experience to back me up, just throwing my two cents out there. (hope it's sound)

My best friend never had a boyfriend until she was in her 20s and then she met her first boyfriend and they dated for awhile and today they are both happily married to each other and its going on 6 years now I believe. So, yes your first relationship can end up to be serious and even lead to marraige as it did for my friend.

Im not saying to rush into anything with the first boy you date.......im just saying that it could go either way........It could be practice if things dont work out between you and if things do work out between then it can turn into something more serious.

If you wanna concider it a practice relationship .... that would mean that you don't like the person - just getting the feeling of a relationship. Any relationship can be serious, it's your choice ....

It can be serious but chances are you won't marry them because your not sure what type of person you like and want to be with for the rest of your life.

Some people actually marry their first love and stay with them forever. It all depends on the relationship and the people.
