Golden Retriever....

2006-07-17 17:16:13 · answer #1 · answered by Lakeside5 2 · 0 2

One that best suits your lifestyle. Period. A person who is inactive, wouldn't do well with a labrador retriever, just like a jogger probably wouldn't do well with an English Bulldog.

I have a Boxer/GS cross, she's the best of both worlds - protective enough and still friendly, loving without being needy, active without being nervous or anxious. If considering a cross breed, look at the breeds it's crossed with and you can narrow down the personality type it will be, e.g. a Rottie/GS cross will be a dominant dog, wherease a Labrador Retriever/Golden Retreiver cross is likely to the opposite.

Ultimately, you need to find a dog who's activity level and personality fit with you and your family's life. An inappropriate match will lead to frustration for both you and the dog and result in another dog going to, or back to the pound.

I love our two laboradors. Labs are good dogs, but they're usually hyper and they need a lot of play time. But, my advice would be to go to a dog shelter and try some different breeds out. Ask the volunteers who work there which ones are their favorites. Also, sometimes older dogs (a couple years old or older) are already potty trained, so keep that in mind too.

The best ones are the ones that instantly, wholly, and affectionately take to you the first minute you see them and they see you. there is a silent but powerful bonding that takes place when you and the dog know it's right. You can't find a better way to choose than that! PS most of my best dogs have been non-breeds or mixed breeds; haven't ever paid much for one. Don't need to...too many good dogs out there waiting for us!

It would really depend on what you want in canine companionship. I have a cocker spaniel and so am partial to that breed. He's great for my life...i have small kids and no yard to speak of...a golden retreiver would be a poor choice if you work 10 hour days and live in an apartment. you really should do research... because this is a commitment of anywhere from 6 years (mastiff) to 17 of 18 years (shih tzu and smaller breed) so do your research before you bring home the cute puupy or adult for that matter... All the best of luck and I hope whatever choice you makes works out!

It would depend what you want the dog for and what type of person you are. First ask this question of your self. Do I want a hyper dog or a calm dog or a lap dog.

Best lap dog is a shitzu

Best all around dog is a lab or any color.

Best large dog is a great dane.

A Doberman of course. We have always had those. They look fierce and can be. If you are a responsable owner, I would choose this smart, loyal and loving dog. They do require training, but are even good with kids. The only downsides to owning a doberman would be if you have no backyard and your homeowners insurance. Usually rates are extremely high, if they even cover these dogs.

It depends on what dog would fit your life style the best. Big back yard or small apartment? One person or huge family with children? Big and active breeds would do better in a big yard to roam around in. Breeds like chihuahuas are not good around small children. Do your research before you make a decision.

The sweet shy one at the local Humane Society. Adult dogs are great to adopt- they really are grateful. They're through that chewing stuff & are usually house trained. I've adopted 2 & I doubt I'll ever have a puppy again.

A Rottweiller, I have one and he is the most loveable, loyal, sweet, beautiful dog that I have ever had , and good protection too. They are very good family dogs, and great with kids. I will never have any other breed again.

If you want an all the time indoor dog a Boston Terrier is a fantastic choice. They love kids........they love other animals.......they love everybody. A Boxer is a fantastic choice for a larger dog but boy do they LOVE to eat!
