it's simple-the Israeli's are doing surgical air strikes and bombing runs doing their level best, to keep civilian casualties to a minimum..they even cancel some sorties if the civilian casualties would be over-whelming--who else do you know that would do that..or warn civilians hours before a raid, to evacuate the area, to reduce civilian deaths--Hezbollah & Hamas target all civilians, because they say all Israeli's are legitimate targets , not just the army of Israel--hell of a difference in philosophy, eh >> that is you answer, right there--one seeks to avoid civilian deaths..the other aims for civilians because they are easy and un-armed--real heroes--shooting mothers and children, point-blank with rifles--these are their heroes !! i am an American, a Veteran-US army regular-not draftee, artillery, and a Jew..and proud to be these three, in that order of importance, just like John F.Kennedy said of himself, but Catholic !!!!!!!!!!

"Only a few casualties" is a relative term. There are now over a hundred dead and many times that many injured -- and this is just in the first few days of war. It only seems like a few from your safe point of view. Any more dead than one or two at a time is a bloody massacre on the ground, I assure you.

Under these kinds of conditions, many more people (mostly young children and old folks) will die from bad water, lack of food and medical attention if this mayhem lasts for months, than would from traumatic lead poisoning. Prolongued fear is a very effective immune suppressor; eventually, stressed out people start dying from the flu and other minor infections. Call it "broken hearts." Let us hope this most recent atrocity does not last that long.

As to your question: it takes tons and tons of high-explosive ammunition, sometimes hundreds of tons, to kill just a few people when most of them are hiding underground or have fled the battle zone. The inert stuff that remains above-ground can get very beat up, but the people below ground can survive an amazing amount of conventional firepower. Neither the Americans invading the Pacific islands during WWII nor the antagonists during WWI could sterilize extensive dug-in positions by massive applications of pure firepower. Takes boots on the ground (getting shot at and losing their own casualties) for that.

Let us just hope nobody gets the bright idea of slinging weapons of mass destruction like poison gas and biologicals. Then almost all the people in the battle zone would die and the infrastructure would remain intact. 'Better' this way...

I just read there were 140 dead, but how can we believe any of it -they only tell us what they want us to know.

I've heard more about the 2 Israeli soldiers that were kidnapped than I have about any innocent civilians killed in Lebanon.

It doesn't matter how many die. If they cared about that...then they wouldn't have started this. It's not about Israel defending theirselves...or about 2 kidnapped soldiers.

They will let as many people die that need to in order to get control of the Region...and the Oil....and the world. People who have such high ambitions rarely care about the casualties they create to reach their goals.

It seems that every country in the Middle East have building codes which state you must have a bomb shelter. I was wondering the same thing, but some reporter was talking about how the people just went to a bomb shelter.

Massive would be hyberbole. The IDF is hiting selective targets and targets of strategic importance (bridges, airport, ports). They also are giving prior notice to civilians in tageted areas. Something the bad guys never do. This is not a carpet bombing of Dresden or something....

There have been 100 deaths, still small number considering the size of attack. Israel has been aiming at weapons, & military, not civilian cities.

Lebanon have been aiming for Israel's largest cities. Cowards!
I have no religious or political leanings in this. I just read the news & interpet what it says.

are you guyst dreaming? lol. They're targeting apartment buildings next to hospitals. Israelis are good at what they do?

Yea. They're good at turning everyone against them. They continue terrorizing ordinary citizens like this, they'll create even more hatred towards themselves. And not only from the muslim cummunity of lebanon.

That number must be wrong, the news feeds this morning mentioned 30 on one bombing run alone and that was known dead. no idea how many bodies are not recognizable or are buried under rubble.
