Generally, Yes, they do. I use to work in days gone by in a large Mall in Kalamazoo, Michigan...(Kalamazoo has earned the title of "Mall City"...because Kalamazoo was the FIRST city in the United States which constructed "Outside Malls")...as a Salesman; and I spent many-a-day marking down prices on clearance items in order to clear the product from the floor to make room for newer products coming into the market scene. As a matter of fact...THAT is one of the foremost reasons for constant price-changes in a retail store.

Yes, usually, and it is the individual store that adjusts the price, not the overall mall that does the pricing.

About to get stale, about to get out of date or "not moving at all!" are normal reasons for lowering the price.

i thought they just put it in the front, like line the older product in front of the newer one so that people pick that up instead

however i do remember poptarts were going to expire in a week so they were selling a box for 100 yen (instead of 600 yen, ripoff here man) so me and my friend bought like 4 boxes each lol
