I took Latin many years ago (in the 80's) and it was really made English make alot more sense to me.
I guess the only tip I can give you is to study and practice. There are language books at the library to help and the some Catholic Churches offer classes as well.

You have to study and try to relate it to English. It will help you learn the roots of words and will increase your vocabulary. I found it to be challenging and fun. Also, you can learn about the Roman gods and goddesses for more background. Roman history is fascinating, too.

1) find a good grammar
2) find a good teacher
3) find a good reason for learning Latin
4) be brave. Audaces Fortuna iuvat!
5) don't loose your motive if you find that it's not very easy to learn it. Per aspera ad astra!

When you practice 'amo, amas, amat', make a kissy face when saying 'amo' to the nerdy guy sitting next to you in class. You will be able to get him to lug around your backpack for you all year long.
