For the vast majority of you, you haven't really gotten into boxing, but have likely sampled boxing movies. Why are they making movies about a sport nobody cares about anyway? Why are you watching them?

I watch boxing all the time - way more than I watch movies about boxing. However, I often watch movies about things I wouldn't normally be interested in. The storylines are written so anybody can get into them easily and understand what's going on.

As for people who watch boxing movies but don't watch regular boxing, a lot of it is just because they're an alternative to Pixar-animation and teen movies and not so sappy that a guy would feel kind of embarassed to go see it.

There are a lot of people who do love boxing. People just lose track of it, though, since it's not on the regular news and there isn't as much in terms of regularly scheduled programming. Besides, going to see the movie is much cheaper than buying the pay-per-view. ;D

Given how uninteresting boxing has become, why not watch movies instead. In the movies there is drama, excitement and action. In actual boxing most of the action seems to occur as the fighters are entering the ring with their entourage. Certainly there are exceptions, but boxing is not as complelling as it used to be.

I was really into boxing in the 1970's and 1980's, but as I watched Larry Holmes get screwed in his fight against Michael Spinks and Hagler get screwed in his fight against Sugar Ray Leonard, I realized that the marketing of the sport was more important to those running it. Shortly thereafter the sport became mostly glitz and very little substance. Too many governing bodies created too many champions to the point that being a champion meant nothing.

It's the a story of overcoming the odds, most likely a poor kid, down on his luck with no hope in site except for the ring, where he/she can redeem themselves, from Rocky, Raging Bull to Fat City the story is pretty much the same. The story of redemption, beating the odds that the people love to watch not necessarily an actual boxing match. There is no greater stage then the ring. "Just give me a stage where this bull here can rage." Jake Lamotta

I like how the characters talk in the Rocky Movies

And don't you forget it foo, or I'll crush you. ADRIAN!

I don't go around pretending I know anything about boxing because I play Fight Night and watch Rocky, it's just a sport that can set up some really nice drama. It's like wrestling, except with a purpose and not tacky

Because, their champ (Lead actor) always win the fight. While in real boxing, they lost lots of money if they bet on the wrong side. Second, they wanted to be amuse by the story of the movies, while in real boxing, it all bloody and messy.

there's a story behind a movie ; there was even a story behind the series contender-- you get to know the characters!-- Plus it isn't as barbaric as watching it live in front of you; you're at least watching actors, so you don't feel guilty :) to just watch a match, there's not really a plot or story; it's just blood and gore!-- not as exciting-- plus that rocky music helps a little too :)
