the mother harms the child so that the child is sick and the mother gets attention for this? She may even make the kid think they are sick..when the doctors cannot figure out exactly why the child is sick (since it was inflicted, not done by the body itself).

Munchausen by proxy. It is a very serious syndrome and the mother needs to get help, if you know someone with this.

Munchausen syndrome is where the person makes other think that they are ill to receive sympathy. The "by proxy" part means the "authorization over another". A proxy often acts as a legal agent for someone in their stead, but in this case it refers to the parent forcing the sickness on the child. So the mother or father does something to make the child sick and then gets attention by playing the concerned parent,

It's abuse on the child. I don't know what it would be called for the parent though.

i have seen this in a psycho trhiller ---a japanese flick...the phone..

i cannot find the right word for this in english but it is a serious illness.
