Get a spray bottle of water and spray it a little whenever it scratches or claws. (Its not hurting the cat) It will teach it that clawing has consequences it won't like.
Or try and divert the interest of the cat to a clawing post.

Clip the kitten's nails with the claw clipper designed for this purpose. It is important to start now while the kitty is young so he/she can get used to it. It doesn't hurt at all, as long as you do not cut the pink (you'll see this part). It's not hard and it takes just a few minutes. You'll get used to doing this in no time -- it works and is 100% worth it!!!

Also, between clippings, remove the kitten from the situation by the scruff of the neck. Again, this is not mean and doesn't hurt the kitty at all. Their mamas pick them up this way. Clearly remove the kitten and she/he will get the message about the 100th time (LOL!).

It takes patience and consistency, but these two actions will pay off. Also, the kitten days are short -- soon the cat will be a lounging grown-up cat. Have fun while you can!!!!

Good luck!

I am assuming you don't want to declaw your kittens, although if they are giung to be indoor cats only that is the best way to go in my opinion. You can clip their nails with baby naul clippers and then file them down, be careful doing this not to cut the quick. Have some styptic powder or gel on hand (available at most pet stores). They used to offer rubber/plastic caps for cats nails. These were glued on to the actual nail and dulled the nail until the nail grew so far they came off. I've never used those personally, but some people have had good success. You can also try a natural deterrent spray, they sell several choices at the better pet stores.

First cut the kittens nails and if that doesn't work get a spray bottle and fill it with water and everytime you see the kitty biting or clawing just give it a spray of water on it's face and say a firm NO! It will get the picture, cats don't like being wet.

ok first of all DON'T EVER declaw them!!! did you know that thats inhumaine? They use their claws to defend themselves. And when their scared they put their claws out. get the kitten some toys to play with. And as long as you keep a kitten occupied then as they get older they will grow out of bitting and clawing when they don't need to. Most the time you can clip their claws so that they're not quite as sharp but if you declaw them then think of it like you're getting your fingernails torn completly off. It hurts them to get declawed. DON'T EVER declaw a cat/kittens or dog/puppies claws it hurts them that bad.

This is normal behavior at that age; watch two kittens wrestle and it looks like they're beating the stuffing out of each other. Eventually they learn to be a little more gentle, but if the kitten does not have this kind of interaction the habit may persist. One approach to stopping this is to break contact or redirect his attention any time he starts nibbling on you; have a cat teaser or other toy to keep him amused instead of chewing on you.

Getting another kitten about the same age would help too; they learn not to bite, ironically, from biting each other - a technique I would not recommend trying!

Kittens are going to claw and bite. I recommend trimming his nails. As for the biting, you can buy a spray called Bitter Apple (pet stores) and put it on your hands so he'll learn to not bite you.

well, if he's a kitten....young, then that's normal and he'll grow out of it as he matures..my kit or cat he's still small so I'm not sure if i can call him a cat but...he's almost seven months and use to do that too,...i use to usually wear pants around the house but now he's older and has learnt not to claw ppl anymore....but in the mean while clip his nails, and he'll also probably learn something from that too.

a quick swat isn't mean, and neither is a spray bottle....you can also use a little dab of vinegar in the water, so not only will they not like being wet, but it will be a little bitter when licking it.....the biting though, be sure to let them play and bite on plastic, like milk lid rings, or plastic that will come on a jar or something....when i take a seal off of a jug of milk, i always throw it on the floor.....they will come running.....and it is good because they may just be teething.....but don't worry about them chewing it into little bits and swallowing it......they will just hold it in their paws and bite on the end of it usually........and bat it around for fun.....

he's doing what kittens do. teething also. keep nails trimmed or try "soft paws" if it's that bad. the biting should settle down as he gets older. buy him toys and get him a scratching post. anything that interests him, since he is a playful kitten, will get the abuse rather than you and the dogs.
