Ok I got pulled over by the cops (rightfuly so) for not having any taillights ,only a break light and I had my friend who was good with cars fidgit with the car, but the best he could only get the side lights to works (on the back of the car, instead of the direct tail lights which seems to light up during braking) and now I'm abit of a lost what to do from their.

get it fixed correctly, you idiot. That's the only way the cops won't bother you and it's safer for other drivers to be able to see you even if you see them they still need to see you. So do it right and then you won't have to worry about for a long time.

if the lights that are not working are in the trunk lid then the wires that supply the lights with currrent have become brittle and have broken.(it is the harness that can be located by the drivers side trunk hinge with trunk open) remove the tape around the wires and locate broken damgaged wires at flex point and splice in new wires...this means soldering multiple wires 3 to 6 inches in length....if you no do before let someone who has do it.
fyi your reverse lights might be in lid check them too.

well its either the bulbs, the wires to the bulbs or the fuses. the easiest check is the fuses (read your owners manual) the bulbs you can usually get to if you take out/ unscrew the light assembly and if nothing works from there you have to back track the wires connected to the bulb that won't light up checking all the connectors as you go.
