My mom and dad did this & stayed together till he passed away. Eventually, when they were able, they went on a honeymoon. My boyfriend wants a small wedding. I say we need to save that money to go on our house. What do you think? We are not wealthy but just starting out. We do have some money saved.

Absolutely! There is nothing wrong with getting married at the courthouse!

I've been married twice now. Couldn't afford a honey moon the first time. I was remarried in May. We went on a week long honeymoon.Take my advice, skip it. It is so over rated. Chances are, you've already had sex, (if not I apologize), but other than that particular reason, it's just a short vacation. You can do that any time. If I had it to do over again, I would so save the money for a house.

Good luck and congratulations! I hope you two have a happy future together.

You & your fiance' might like to use the following article --and perhaps those related to it-- as the basis for a discussion on the subject.

The wedding ceremony we had was very simple, with just a few of our families & friends in attendance. The location was in my folk's garden. It was performed by a relative who is also a minister, who also provided Bible-based counsel. I prefer to keep all things Very Simple, as extras tend to distract & stress me. So I am Very Glad we did Not try to have a large wedding! We also were 'counting our pennies', so skipped the honeymoon trip. ... We're still together after 20 years.

Also, the more common sense that you both have & use from the start, the better off you will be long-term ...

How soon do yall want to put down on a house? How small a wedding is he talking about? Get those questions answered.

As far as courthouse weddings.....there's nothing wrong with getting married at the courthouse with a small party. You can always renew your vows 10, 20, 25 years later and have that big wedding.

You're actually being very smart about it. My husband and I got married at the courthouse and our immediate families were there with us. Our mothers signed as witnesses and my parents made us a "Just Married" sign and bought us a wedding cake. It was great! No stress, no hassles. We figured we would have a renewal ceremony at a later date so we could have something a little more formal, but after 8 yrs. I've decided that I don't need it. Getting married and starting your lives together is what's important.

I say go for it at the courthouse, you all could always have a wedding later by renewing your vowels. There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting married in a courthouse. You could always just have a small reception if you want a gathering to take place. I don't think it will make you two love one another any less!!!!!!

It is very appropriate to be married at the courthouse. I agree with you that any money you have saved should go for a solid roof over your head. Stats show that paying rent is like flushing your hard earned money down the toilet! Think how much fun it will be to plan that very special vacation for a year from now, on your one year anniversary!! And what better incentive to save for it over this next year!!

The wedding isn't what's important...the marriage is. Getting married in the courthouse is perfectly fine. What the two of you have together is what will be with you forever...and that's what truly matters.

Good luck and congratulations!!

Maybe you can compromise and have your wedding at the courthouse, and use some of the money for a nice dinner with your family and his to celebrate the union.

It is PERFECTLY OK to get married at the courthouse. Good for you for considering it. If you don't spend the money, you don't have to make it and penny pinching now will pay off handsomely down the road. Makes perfect sense to this old geezer.
