Making a file Smaller?

I am trying to make a file that is 897MB and i tried to zip it and is still says 897MB i am trying to burn it to a disc any suggestions

zip is crap try using winRAR

if that doesnt work borrow your friends dvd burner

So the problem with Winzip and Winrar and other compression algorithms is that they only work for files that are uncompressed. Files such as MP3's and AVI's (divx encodings) are already pre-compressed as much as possible to cram as much quality into a small file as possible.

Your best bet is trying to burn it as a DVD. Or if you really run out of options, using www.yousendit.com to store it there for a week and download it to wherever you wanted to move it, or save it onto a computer that has a dvd burner.

Download Winrar. It lets you set the compression quality. By setting it to a .rar and the best compression quality, you can get the file size pretty small.

There is also a nifty file splitter feature in Winrar. This splits the file into X mb files. This way, if your disks only hold 80 mb, you split the file into 80 mb chunks and burn them to multiple disks. Once you put all the chunks in the same folder on your computer, you can extract it back into the original file.

when you're trying to make a big file like that smaller, zipping it won't do much. zipping only decreases it by a few megs, some times only a few kilobytes. try compressing it. right click on it, and check the "compress" box, and press okay.

Dont know your ZIP utility. But the best I think is WINZIP. Try it..
