I've heard that laughing a certain number of times a day is the same as exercising for 10 minutes on a rowing machine. Is this true? Sometimes after I had a long laugh I would feel it in my abdominal muscles so I think it just might be true.

well it all depends on how hard your laughing and how long your laughing for... true, laughing does burning calories but so does sitting and laying down... any time you have a muscle working your burning calories, since your heart is a muscle it burns calories, same with any muscle that you use... now your claim that laughing would be like 10 minutes on a rowing machine is probably not true unless your laughing for a loooong period of time

Really, everything our body does, laughing, breathing, sitting, thinking, standing, whathave you...everything burns calories, even if only a small amount.

Our body has to burn calories in order for use to be able to have the energy to do the day to day things that we do, so, we are always burning a little all the time. Think of it as our fuel...for a car...just sitting still uses fuel...not too much different for our bodies either.

Also, when you laugh...you're working abdominal muscles in order to laugh..or the physical movement we do when we laugh. That's why after a while, you feel it in your muscles.

I think you would need to laugh for about 3 1/2 hours a day to get the effect of 10 minutes of rowing.....and at that point you might get committed to an asylum and put in a rubber room for laughing so much. Once there, you would have NO chance for any exercise whatsoever....

Laughing is certainly a way to burn calories as well as all other motor activities. Which means, everything from blinking to running. But, too much laughing is not a good. For example, laughing then stopping and so on, is good but constent can be very harmful.

You burn calories laughing just like you're burning calories sitting at your computer answering these questions. You burn calories no matter what you do. You probably don't burn a whole lot, but laughing sure does make you feel better :)
