Australian forces have deployed SAS into Iraq & Afghan proper, navy in the persian gulf doing board & search ops, c130s flying transport missions in Iraq. They are great troops doing an excellent job. They even came with us in small numbers to Vietnam when no one else did. I hate to say they'd be quicker to assist the US with military force than our dear friends in teh UK, but they facts speak for themselves.

To the future, they would be one of the first in with US/Japan if China invaded Taiwan, or N Korea attacked anyone. They are the semii-superpower of the pacific - that might be giving them too much credit, but they're close to it & highly concerned with Asian terrorist links (Maoist rebels & islamic terrorists). Thier SAS is very busy these days, as are most special operations forces around the world.

Australia is a part of the "coalition of the willing" which in 2003 invaded Iraq. although in my opinion it is no longer a war in the traditional sense as the coalition has sucessfully occupied the country. they are, however, fighting a very dedicated group or groups of insurgents. which is still called war by the media, the man on the street and even the American administration.
all that having been said i can't recall if Australian combat troops were removed from combat after there most recent election.

Australian Forces are Serving in Iraq today. Naval forces help patrol the gulf with the US & Royal Navy. Australian SAS troops saw action on the ground during the invasion as well as the 1991 Gulf War. Australian forces also served in Vietnam & Korea.

Strictly speaking to be at war is to declare open hostilities between two nations. This is not the case with Australia. We do have forces on operations and in contact with a declared enemy in support of our national interests.
