Ewido is the best I've used so far and believe me, I've tried em all. Most people dont realise this program is actually free, what happens is, you download an evaluation of the pro version and after the trial period expires, you choose to go pro and pay or stick with the standard version (free).

Different programs have different spyware definitions so some catch certain spyware while others catch still more, Ewido is the most comprehensive I've seen, try the online scan first to check it out if you wish, source below:

Keep your own Anti-virus up to date, and check the status regularly.

Get and update several Anti-spyware solutions. I use AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destroy. I use the free versions from http://www.download.com Update and run these regularly. Especially IMMEDIATELY after an upexpected pop-up.

Download and install FireFox free from http://www.mozilla.com This is a browser that is safer to use than IE. Use this for general surfing and google searching. Only use IE when you MUST have IE, such as Windows Updates.

If you have Windows XP with SP2, activate the Windows firewall and check the status. If you don't, get Zone Alarm the free version from http://www.zonelabs.com

Take these steps to keep your computer ALIVE.

You can safely use Spybot SD with Spywareblaster and Windows Defender in concert as a layered approach to security on your pc.
Some people swear by Ad Aware Personal too.

spybot S&D is a reliable and simple program available for download from many mirror sites.

it typically scans your entire hard-drive in less than 10 minutes, then gives you an itemized list of what pops-up, as well as an estimate on how big of a threat such parasites can be

Go to either komando.com, or download.com.

Trend anti spy is sort of good, but they only have a 30 day test period.

I have run Ad-aware and spybot search and destroy for almost 2 years each.

I use Superantispyware & spybot search & destroy - both are brilliant & free to download & free to remove spyware with.

I've tried most of the so-called free ones but these are the best.

Good luck!

Yes, try this site. I use the product and I promise you it is free. Although it's not as bang upto date as the pay for version, you can still download updates that leave you not far behind the 'pay for' one. It works too.
