You don't need to believe in any religion to be close to God.

All religion is man made it all makes the same claim that it comes from God. This claim is partially true but people can never stand to leave Gods word alone. This is because god’s word is consistent and does not mesh well with their personal preconceptions and bigoted ideas. So they make little changes here and there injecting their thoughts into the mix tainting the word with nonsense. For this reason you should not put much faith in these ideas about god that come from others. If God wants to tell you something He is perfectly capable of telling you directly.

Maybe you should stop reading what other people say about God and ask him to tell you what he wants you to do directly. Stop reading; clear you mind and listen. When you pray get you’re talking over as soon as possible and listen. He is trying to talk to you but your mind is full of nonsense from the bible and other sources. Don’t be surprised if what you hear does not sound much like what you have been told about God. You will be hearing Gods message minus the nonsense.

In your bible study have you ever heard of the small still voice? You can't hear it if your mind is otherwise occupied with other people’s silly ideas about God. Just try it you will be surprised

A lot of it has to do with cultural habits or identity. People do things they shouldn't in the name of religion.

You certainly can chose your own religion. You can be spiritual and not religious even. Whichever religion -- or combination of beliefs -- that could guide you toward becoming a better person is the one you should chose.

You do not have to believe in the religion you were raised in. People who are truly interested in spiritual matters will study what religions from around the world say about the human spirit and not just limit themselves to mouthing what their mommy and daddy told them. You have to question whether your parents have ever researched and examined their spiritual beliefs or are they simply just doing what THEY were raised doing?

Who says you have to stay in the religion that you were born in? You can make up your own mind by experiencing other religions and cultures. It's good to decide for yourself which way you would like to worship.

who told you that you had to believe the same as anyone else? There are no rules that state you can't change your belief system when you find truth. Check out the site listed here and do the studies on there and you will see what the bible says.

just because your parents are from one church. don't mean you have to be ... When you get to be an adult and on your own . just convert to another religion .. If that is what you want... Just don't Join NO Cult..( Like the Jim Jones One that took all his followers -Men, women and children_ To Guyana-and killed them with Cynide poision.) Your mom and dad would have a hissy fit....
