I always thought homosexuality was defined as being to attracted to the same gender - If this is the case, doesn't that include being attracted to not only the same physical characteristics, but masculinty in general ?

I have a friend who is a "lipstick lesbian" and she only has relationships with women who act, and look like men. I asked her why is she having relationships with women who look like men ? It seems to me, she really wants a man, but not the baggage that goes along with some men.
I love my friend to death; I wasn't trying to tell her who she should and should not date. I just don't understand that aspect of homsexuality/lesbianism. Please do not take my questions as anything but questions based out of ignorance.

well you could ask the same question about straight people, why are some guys attracted to masculine women or why ar some women attracted to femm guys? its not always about the roles of the sex, just a matter of what nature has selected you to like

Opposites attract, who knows! Ask yourself what are you attracted to? If you are dominating and masculine would you want a mate just like you or the opposite and vise versa. Perhaps that it the type of person they would choose if they were straight.

I'm guessing that the feminine gay guy is like dating a chick for some reason.
