I used to use a blow dryer to dry my daughters ears out after she went swimming to try and prevent the problem. If I needed to treat the problem I could get these drops from the pharmacist. You don't need a prescription, but they keep it behind the counter so you have to ask for swimmers ear medication...it is drops you put in the ear.

The best treatment is prescription ear drops available from your doctor. The best way to prevent swimmers ear is to make sure that you dry out your ears each time you swim.
There are over the counter ear drops to help clear out the ears.. and you have to stay on one side then the next to help them set in... Ask your doctor for which ones would work best for you.

Ear plugs are your best bet. When I was young my sister and I got swimmers ear because we had a pool and would constantly swim. It got bad to where we would constantly get swimmers ear and have to take antibiotics which is bad because it can damage your hearing. My sisters ears would bleed. We started using ear plugs and it helped a lot.

I had swimmers ear last week, I went to the doctor, and he gave me some drops for it, and prescribed me some pink pills and it made it go away very fast, and this Friday I have to get my ear cleaned out by him but its really fast and not a big deal, but the best thing would be to go to your doctor and get this, it will be better and he will know what to do.

There are OTC meds to "treat" swimmers ear---but if it gets really annoying--prescription anti-bios are the only solution.
A great home remedy is a 50% mix of peroxide and sweet oil-
slightly warmed (not hot) in the ear canal.....If one has sensitive ears--"plugs" will keep it from happening again....

Going through this myself right now. If you already have it, you need to go to the doctor to get some antibiotic ear drops. Otherwise, after swimming, you can use an ear bulb to gently flush a mixture of water, alcohol, and vinegar into the ear canal. Hope you feel better!

WEAR EAR PLUGS! Don't put your head under the water to have to worry about gettting swimmer's ear to begin with, you can be in the water without getting your head wet!

the way i prevent swimmer's ear (and i'm an avid swimmer!) is to soak a cotton ball with rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol and squeeze a few drops into my ear canal. it dries out the water. i haven't had it in years.
