Yawning is actually not just because you are tired. It is the bodies way of getting more oxygen. And there is no real reason for other people yawning when you do. It is like laughter just seems contagious.

Nobody knows why people yawn at the same time. However, since the behavior crosses species (cats for example) it makes sense that there is probably a physical advantage to the behavior mimicking. For example, having two eyes allows for a parallax measurement of distance, which might be the reason that so many animals have two eyes, instead of one, or three.

When you yawn you have loss of oxygen to brain , so there fore you yawn. As far as others yawning after you do or say, I think it is physiological . Because so many have said it is contagious, and you hear that all the time.

Im not sure why yawns are contagious, but the reason living creatures yawn is to get the carbon dioxide out of their lungs, the big breathe in helps loosen the carbon fragments, and the exhale pushes them out.

It's a great tool for see if someone was staring at you. Try it one time, yawn on purpose then look around and see you yawns. If they do, then they were staring at you.

Yawning has nothing to do with being tired. It is mostly an involuntary movement of the diaphram, it is almost like a muscle spasam. It is also very contagous because it's on our heads to do this.
