Trauma or infection of the nailbed (the white part near the base of the nail) can damage the cells, which then causes the affected nail to fall off. If you're hiking long distances in poorly-fitting shoes, the friction and pressure can injure the nailbed to the point where the toenail falls off later. You don't have to drop anything on it. Eventually, the toenail will grow back, but you should protect the surrounding skin with a light dressing and wear cushioned socks. Avoid tight-fitting shoes.

You def have a toe nail fungas. That happened to me. If you're healthy. No hep C, failed organs... You need to get on Lamisil. Don't bother with the topic solutions, because they just cover up symptoms for a little while. You'll need a systemic medication, and you'll have beautiful toes again in a couple of months. Good look, and I'll be praying you get better soon. I know what you're going through... :(

it could be a nail fungus. Sometimes when your shoes rub against your toes, it can cause that as well. Before jumping to any conclusions, it's best to see a doctor.
