Sorry about the kitten. Rotties are often very aggressive towards other animals, but that doesn't mean he will turn on people. There is no reason to get rid of him! Just don't get any more cats...

Living here on a farm that raises dogs as well as other animals we've encountered many different situations. To be quite frank we have had to put a dog down before as it had killed a few of our sheep and wouldn't quit. We have had success though with certain dogs by tying the chicken (that it killed) around the dogs neck to were it can't get it off. This might sound a little inhumane but it comes down to discipline the dog or finding a new one. The hoped for effects of the tying trick is to give the dog a fear of the thing that it's use to killing, and hopefully he'll go the other way next time he sees a cat coming. Just a thought; good luck with your dog.

First, I wouldn't get anymore kittens until you have better control of this dog.
You can try to go this alone or hire a professional to help you learn to control this dog. These are large, powerful, dominate dogs and a professional opinion might be best here.
He doesn't stand a chance at a shelter. But you may want to try Rottweiler rescue. They may be able to help. Lots of great people that love and understand this breed. Too big of a problem to ignore.
I love my Rottweilers! This breed needs a strong owner that is consistant and in control. My rotties live in a pack of dogs including very small ones. My girl has a Chihuahua as a friend!

Rottweilers are a breed among similar breeds that are considered aggressive and dominant. They tend to exert their dominance in ways that seem strange to us. Chances are there is nothing "overly" aggressive about your dog outside of a Rottweiler's temperment. If you want to have cats and dogs, you need to do the following: get a puppy and raise it with a cat AND make sure it is a "submissive" or nondominant breed of dog. You can go on to the AKC website and read about dogs' temperments and whether or not they are good with other animals. It will actually tell you whether or not that animal is good with other pets/other dogs/etc.
If you want a cat, then get rid of this dog. He will kill another kitten. Just because he attacks cats does NOT mean he will attack humans. However, because you now know he could be capable of doing so you need to make sure he is never off a leash in public!!!

you should bear in mind that when a baby is knocked over by technique of a canines even no matter if it truly is accedently, the youngster will maximum in all probability screme and cry. start up kicking and waving their fingers (i'm purely assuming) at that element the canines any canines maximum likly thinks it truly is pinned prey and then their instincts take over. The idoit is the figure. someone must be mind lifeless to go away a baby on my own with any canines be it a Rottweiler or a Chihuahua! i am going to tell that detrimental baby likely suffered distinctive soreness. once you have ever been bit by technique of a Rottweiler it is the most excrushating soreness you could imagine. And what ever limb or body area you've been bit can no longer function for a minimum of two days. And this became a baby. I nevertheless say human beings and their households, pick to take a route on the care and responsiblity of a canines and bypass a try previous to possessing any canines. what's this international coming too, the idoit female in FL left her 4year-previous outdoors on my own including her 4 Bulldogs and today this jerk leaves his daughter with the Rotty. I actual have owned tutor high quality and gurard Rottweilers for on the point of two decades and at the moment personal 3 Rotts and a million Rott blend today, i'd under no circumstances, ever, ever go away a baby on my own with any canines. i will not even go away my Chihuahua on my own with any of my enormous canines for any length of time you only don't understand faster or later he ought to look like prey to them. Hell i ought to look like prey to them faster or later. Hell you need to be required to take a try and bypass it to have toddlers too. So unhappy...... I likely doesn't pick any canines if this were me. None. yet it truly is what i imagine today i quite do no longer understand how i'd react in one of those challenge. there is always some caution signal, a growl habit change, some thing that the owner did not %. up on!

Do you have ANY friends or family that could take him? You may get an answer out of the newspaper cuz lots of people like rotts but the type of person is unknown. I got my rottie from somebody who beat the hell out of him. He is scared of his own shadow. I ahd him for 2 years and all of a sudden my son became terrified of him I had to get rid of him but my best friend took him. It worked out perfect cuz I still get to see him all the time but Jordan doesn't have to be scared. I would really try for someone you know if at all possible if not I know you will get a taker from the paper. Believe it or not Rotts are on of the top 10, everybody likes rotts, well not everybody you klnow what I mean

I don't know if the dog should be put to sleep, but you need to do something about. Rottweilers are an aggressive breed and if you have one, it probably would be best as the only pet. If you keep it, do not have any other pets. Try to find a pet behaviorist in your area. Ask your vet. It might help.

i'm sorry for your loss, i really am. many dogs have been bred for aggression, and though they may not display it anywhere else, they can really want to play with or kill small animals. If you can't place him, he should be kept away from cats. You can do your best to train him to leave cats alone, but I would still never want to leave him alone with one. If you have other small animals in the house, seperate them with doors. If you're afraid of him hurting neighbors' pets, hate to say it, but you'll have to either watch him when he's outside, or put up a fence.

Did you always have a cat around your rotti since he was a pup? If not, that's the reason why he killed it, by nature, dogs kill cats, unless you raise your pup with a kitten when they are babies. what can you do? keep your rotti and don't bring any more kittens around unless you feel like waking up to that nightmare again.

dang that sucks, worse thing i ever seen was a dog kill a cat, but it was a lot quicker than 10 minutes. my dog and cat get along, though my dog is a few years older and I introduced them in my house, my dog knows not to act out in the house. my cat is a fat boy and can handle himself but no cat can withstand a dog clampimg down on them. id keep the dog, just try and train it a little better maybe> some dogs cant be trained but at least give it another chance even though I know your upset. my bf is good training dogs, maybe you know someone who can help you out. somtimes you have to be mean with them (im not) but get someone who can be. good luck
