Looks help, but the really important thing is personality. You have to be compatible with the woman. She could look like Shakira, but if you just can't converse with her, the relationship is on borrowed time. Shared interests are also a plus. It gives you an easy conversation starter. Honesty is also very important. You can't have a real relationship with someone you basically can't trust. Intelligence is a great quality too. As is a sense of humor. You don't want someone who just can't laugh.

My husband had a crush on me for 14 years before he ever said anything to me. He told me that it was how I handled myself, the fact that I was independent on my own, my eyes, and my smile. He also told me that I had one of the best personalities of anyone he had ever met. I guess that the fact that I can be a martha stewart doesn't hurt either. LOL
