The question is that why most of the very religious people (fundalmentalist and fanatic included) always like to sport a beard or a goatee? Is there a religious singnificant there? If so can explain? All kind of religions practise answer is accepted here (that's means not only Christian/muslim but other religion as well)

well I'm not sure about others, but for Muslims (men) its a 'sunnah'. It's something our prophet did. So we do it without questioning it.
But generally, I think a beard showed humbleness and piety in a person in earlier times (and perhaps even now). God knows best ;)

hey, like I've wondered that very same thing, man.. (Ever see one of those Amish.. Mennonite men? When they get 'married' they let their beards grow.. wierd, huh?) I think it kind of symbolizes they are true.. pure or the like (mean everybody else... I live next to Indiana and it's loaded with Amish..) I think men let the hair on their head grow in some religions too.. I'm related thru marriage (my kid married the daughter) to a man from India.. with the turban.. I've wondered if he let his hair grow under that thing (he's got a great ole beard floating round) or what? Maybe it means they're 'older & know more' (than me? easy to do in the religion dept. man)

Jehovahs witnesses do not sport beards. I am not sure why other religions do , Quite frankly I have never noticed every religion doing it. Just Jews and Amish and some penecostals.

being an old hippie, i have been in the middle of the hair controversy for a long time. been kicked out of restaurants, hassled on the street, girlfriends fathers wouldnt let me in the yard, ect. worse when i grew the beard, i was going down the interstate at 70mph, the woman in the car beside me took one look and locked her door. it all boils down to this. its only hair.

Some men look good with goatees, but to most it's not a religious thing.
