We are all responsible for the actions of others to some degree. 'No man is an island, entire unto himself,' as John Donne wrote. Of course many barbaric things have been done in the name of the religion that I practise, and for this I feel some shame. However, it is counter productive to lay the blame on abstract concepts like faith, and also very naive. Man is the sole cause of these acts of violence not religion.

You may as well ask why all you 'gas guzzlers' don't accept responsibility for the oil snatching going on in the Middle East that is masquerading as the 'War on Terror'?

Your name doesn't support you. With the fall of the Roman Empire, the librarian of Alexandria was pulled off her carriage and skinned alive. Literacy dropped. Even the Pope had to have the Bible read to him. In the first crusade, Christians killed tens of thousands of people they called "infidels". The Children's Crusade (1212) caused the deaths of nearly 50,000 children. Preachers sentenced to death and executed thousands during the Inquisition (1233-1834) for heresy and witchcraft. There were the the Salem witch trials (1692) in America. The 17th Century Thirty Years War (Catholics v. protestants) wiped out tens of millions in Europe. In the Taiping Rebellion in China in the 1850's a Christian cult started a war that resulted in the slaughter of twenty million people. In the Holocaust six million Jews were murdered. Muslims and Christians in Bosnia reached a death toll of over 250,000.

So how was this the atheists' and other non-believers' fault?

Obviously you are still trying to blame God for human wrongs and destruction. This is a big mistake.

Dictators through history have not believed and they lost their souls doing the horrific attrocoties they did.

The evil inflicting on the innocent today is similar to before, only its worse today, because this evil desease of terrorists is actually trying to justify its evil works in the name of God.

This is the worst kind od disrespect there is and carries the heaviest punishment.

We will judge ourselves fro the actions we chose to do.

The only consequence is that the innocent are cared and tended for in the next life.

There is more going on than what the human eye can see. Read about the Third eye, and Chakras and meditation.

If you search in yourself you will find the the peace you need.
Imagine everyone actually thought of what they were doing and the consequences it could imply on others.

Ahhh, feelings, there you go. Consider others before your own. Your view will change dramatically fro the better.

"Bible Basher?" Cute name, however, humans do the killing, whether it's in the name of God, country, or whatever, they can justify it with religion or with Satan - they just want to kill, and right now this very minute, YOU are involved in the process that went on back then, being angry at someone who thinks differently than you, and that is what causes the barbaric deaths, in anyones name.

By your way of thinking... rather confuses me...

I'm the grand-daughter of a German Jew from Nazi Germany and my grand-mother was Christian.

So, am I guilty, or innocent, or does one nullify the other?

None of the above. I, in my life, have done nothing to cause someone's death and I have never willingly caused anyone harm. If your father commits a crime, do you serve his sentence? No.

So why are you asking me to accept the responsibility of someone's actions that happened before I was born. History cannot be rewritten, but it should be studied so that it never happens again.

Your question lacks thought and logic, it's merely stated to incite anger and create an atmosphere of malevolence towards those of religious backgrounds. It does nothing to open lines of communication between peoples of different and varying beliefs.

For the same reason you don't accept responsibility for 26 million deaths in the name of two atheists. Sorry.

As Christians we cannot be responsible for the misguided actions of others, we are only responsible for our own actions. Not all Christians are "Bible bashers" and we don't all agree with Holy wars.
Think harder next time- don't just generalise.

Joseph Stalin killed 20 million soviet citizens 1929-1939 because werent politically correct. Pol Pot, the leader of the marxist regime in cambodia kampuchea, in the 1970's, killed 1.7 million of his own ppl In Fact, the pol pot regime specifically preached atheism (stalin did as well) and sought to exterminate all religious expression in cambodia.
This last example by itself resulted in the death of more ppl than those who were killed by 2000 years of christian attrocities. should atheism be blamed for the atrocities of a few prominent atheists?

No war has ever been fought on this Earth because of Religion!! Man tries to justify wars by bringing God into it. Wars are fought for the possession of land. Jews and Palestinians/Hezbollah. But also In Ireland.............. Would Bush and the Alliance have invaded Iraq if instead of oil it produced "Brussell Sprouts"????????? I doubt it !

What is worst will be the billions who will suffer forever because of God, God is fair and just and loving, but he is also strict and demanding, so if you have not accepted Christ and follow God,

I can take some responibility for not telling enough people to repent, be baptised and accept Christ
