I've never had a problem with Norton Internet Security and Norton Antivirus. Been using ever since Mcfee let me down.

There is no best. A lot depends on how you use the computer and where you surf to. The built-in firewall is light on protection so get Zonealarm (free). Anti-virus programs are reactive rather than proactive, meaning that they come out with new signatures after the fact so almost any of them will work. Buy one on sale. More importantly get anti-spyware programs (spybot and AdawareSE) and use then often.

the problem with all antivirus soft and fire walls is it slows the system badly, windows built in fire wall is more than suffiecient unless... u surf alot of hacking or porn sites or such related sites, where even the best antivirus software say norton or avg would obviously not detect any malicous code dumped into the system since u are authorizing it... BY THE WAY if u install norton and avg both software detect others as a virus not kidding....

if you haven't tried McAfee lately, I think you'll find that they've improved a lot lately. The XP version of firewall and Virus Scan updates itself automatically, and it doesn't interfere with other programs running, as it sometimes did in the past.

For personal use? I would suggest AVG for your anti-virus, and ZoneAlarm for your firewall. Both are free for personal use. Pay for them, and they are good for business use too!
