Conservative Bob Barr, a former Congressman from Georgia who was quoted in the Post, said it best: “The American people are going to have to say, ‘Enough of this business of justifying everything as necessary for the war on terror.’ Either the Constitution and the laws of this country mean something or they don’t. It is truly frightening what is going on in this country

Patrick W : WHAT liberal judges? Damn, you rightists keep hee-hawing about the "liberal judges, the liberal press" WHERE are they? The Conservatives have purged most "liberal judges" and the media is SOLIDLY conservative. Owned and operated by Conservative republicans.

Mr.Barr (a conservative) is not the only congressman expressing this concern. To date, there are about an equal number of congress members from both sides of the ailse who respect freedom and the constitution more than they value their own job security, and I take this as a good sign for our nation.

Unfortunately, we are a large crowd of people watching a madman with an axe who is walking towards us from a hundred yards away, and we are all saying, "If he comes one step closer, I'm gonna do something...", but we keep watching.

The question is wether or not the politicans and the liberal judges follow the constitution or write into it laws as they see fit.
I see for about 40 years a trend for those officials in office to slide toward the liberal way of thinking. That type of thought is slowly changing our country while the conseratives are also slowly removing themselves from the Christian faith.
I say it is entropy. Everything headed down hill
I pray for our children in the liberal puplic education because their furture is very bleak

Re: Your response to Patrick.

The six U.S. Supreme Court Justices who flushed traditional moral values down the toilet when they ruled that "sodomy" is a constitutional right. The same ones who say that abortion is a constitutional right. The same ones who said that 53 1/2% of the voters of Colorado were bigots. Those Justices are liberal. Maybe not all of them are liberal enough for your tastes, but they were too liberal for us.

BTW, why did I see all liberals standing by sheepishly while election 2000 was stolen from you by 5 conservative judicial activists????

I oppose all judicial activism, conservative or liberal. Robert Bork and Hugo Black taught me to think that way. The conservative judicial activism that stole election 2000 was enough to chase me away from the Republican Party for good.

Yes, you do see people standing by sheepishly while our civil liberties are being trampled. And the ACLU is no exception.

The main reason for this is that nobody knows what the Bill of Rights is or what it is about. I can even bet you that if you asked a class of high school students to enumerate the rights in the Bill of Rights, they couldn't tell you what they are.

I am proud to say that I know each one of them verbatim and my kids do, too. But most kids don't know what the hell you are talking about when you ask them what rights are or what their rights are.

no I don't. I see people willingly giving up those freedoms because GWB keeps fear alive. the fact is that if someone is willing to die for their cause then its very hard if not impossible to stop them. we've insulted our Canadian neighbors by requiring a passport to cross that border when the fact is that if someone wants to go from the US and Canada there are miles and miles of wilderness where crossing is unmonitored. and there are the ones that, when you try to show them what there are losing they say "it's a small price for security" or "you have nothing to fear if you've done nothing wrong" (I think that last one is a quote from H. Himmler)
I guess what I do see is Bush spreading propaganda and his minions eating it up like it was manna. I hope there is something left of this country to hand over to the next president.

What, oh sorry - I was too happy enjoying the lack of terrorist attacks since 9/11 to pay attention to what you were saying.
