there have been studies that indicate aspartame (or nutra sweet - the sweetener in diet coke) causes short term memory loss. if that's a concern, you can always switch to coke zero, which has splenda instead of nutra-sweet (and tastes better, too).
recently though, there have been a lot of studies that show ANY diet drink with artificial sweetener contributes to weight gain. the scientists aren't sure why yet, but they think it's something like this: you taste something sweet, and your brain sends out signals to start producing insulin, which counteracts the sugar you take in. but in this case, there's no sugar, so you just have excess insulin floating around. the problem with insulin: it increases your appetite and increases your fat retention.
sucks, huh?
i haven't heard anything at all about alzheimers being caused by diet coke, so i wouldn't worry about that.... we've got enough to worry about already, don't we??? :)

You are ruining your health drinking diet coke. It's rotting your teeth (you'll need dentures), depleting your body of calcium (pre-osteoporosis), turning your blood sugar metabolism into a stressed out reaction (diabetes is on the horizon); what good could it be doing you?

could not have said it better than the answers so far...believe them.. in fact the truck that carries the syrup that makes coke has to have a toxic label on it...It should be the same for any artificial sugar, it's just another chemical that has nasty side effects
