I have done this, and currently looking for a publisher. I didn't have any idea how to go about writing the book. so I kind of taught myself. This was before the internet was invented. I am sure there are websites that can help with this. But I'll tell you how I did this-
1. Pick a time in your life when you want to start your book. Example: I started in 1982 because it started a very important time in my life.
2. Start thinking and writing down notes of all the things that have happened in your life. Try to write the things in order as they happened. You don't have to include every single thing that has happened, but you can if you want to.
3. Keep a note pad with you at all times. Even by your bedside. I did this because at the oddest times, I would remember things that happened years ago that I wanted to add in my book.
4. I got books from the library that teach you 'how to write'. This was before internet, so I'm sure you can find this help on the internet.
The book titled 'strunk and white's elements of style' is the best book that helped me.
5.There are different aspects to writing. Some of these are learning how to make a 'bridge' connecting one scenario you are writing about to the next one.
Another one is, when you write a sentence, read it over and see if you can rearrange the words so it will sound better.
6.Proofread spelling, grammar, and if it just 'sounds' right. I have actually written my book over 5 times cause I learned how to make it better.
7.Type out your manuscript on the computer and save it, plus make a copy of it on a disk to save.
8.There are websites that show you how to write your book into a manuscript.
This is all I can think of off hand. Hope this helps!!

first you make a list of the important things and events that had happened in your life, the same goes with people in your life, then you write down the places that you've been to, its kind of like an autobiography you just tell us about yourself. and thats pretty much how it starts good luck

Don't be discouraged. Editors take care of grammer. Just start writing. Write, and write and write. You will be able to tell what is good and what is bad when you are done and you go back and read what you have written.

just write...once you begin writing about nothing things will start popping into your head and you will have a story...that's how my english teacher taught us...when you cant think of anything just start writing things that come to your head and soon it will start to make sense...

Start with an outline, then fill it in with the details. It's good to start with an overall structure instead of just rambling.

the terrific tragedies of the writing worldwide is that maximum folk write what they understand. and the majority, what they understand, is universal, subsequently unexciting. solid writers write what they understand. large writers write what they are able to think of.

Ask yourself this question- would people care? If yes, start with "Once upon a time..." All great stories do!
