I checked out Rabbit's links, and I didn't see any explicit rule against bringing handcuffs with carry-on luggage. However, there was a page that recommended banning them as they could be used as defencive weapons by skyjackers, so I would play it safe and put them into checked luggage, even though the airline has the right to inspect your bags. (They actually might get a kick out of them.)
And if you must restrain your girlfriend for the flight, use something benign like a scarf! ;-)

Yes, you are allowed to bring handcuffs onto an airplane. I personally would not want the potential hassles from the security checkpoints (might end up not liking the kinky stuff anymore), but it is not illegal to bring handcuffs on board a plane.
As a matter of fact it is illegal to NOT have a prisoner restrained with handcuffs aboard a flight.

I'd doubt it. Put it into checked luggage. Because they wont let you have it in carry on, they'll think you want to handcuff the piolet or something.

I wouldn't dare put them in a carry-on. Put them in checked luggage, or better yet, send them ahead of you via FedEx.
