MY VET ACTUALLY RECOMMENDED ONE AND IT WORKED WONDERS. THEY ALSO SOLD BURLAP BAGS SPECIFICALLY FOR CATS TO GO TO THE DOCTOR IN. MY CAT WOULD GO INSANE GOING ON A VISIT TO THE VET. IN THE PILLOW CASE HE SETTLED DOWN AND RODE VERY WELL. JUST BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET YOUR HANDS IN THE WAY WHEN YOU TIE THE TOP. MY CAT DIDN'T LIKE TO GET IN THE CASE AND SCRATCHED TO GET OUT. BUT AFTER HE WAS IN HE WAS FINE. SAVES A LOT OF WEAR AND TEAR ON YOUR SKIN, ETC, TOO! AND HE BREATHED JUST FINE...ITS CLOTH ALREADY!

The vets and humane society in my town got together to do a free vaccination drive. I read the article in the paper and they were standing outside just having people drive up and doing the shots without ever leaving the car - they asked people to do the pillow case thing with cats. They said it was safer than a carrier (for this specific event) because they could give the shots straight through the pillow case, instead of getting them out of the carrier and risking the cat freaking out and running away. Personally I wouldn't do (my cats would hate me forever, they're a little bit spoiled), but I can see the logic. And it's safer than just letting them roam the car if you have no other choice.

NO. As far as I know....you would be better off just letting your cat ride shotgun...or walk around your car. They like small, warm places, but if you put him in a pillowcase, you are most likely to have one scared cat by the time he gets out. I would invest in a carrier, or just let him roam in the car.

No this is not a good idea. The cat will not be able to breathe well. I would suggest getting a cat carrier- or at least a box or basket, where there are openings for air.

Yes, a car ride can be stressfull, the pillowcase acts like a blind for a bird. your cat can breath fine, will be calmer, just leave room for the cat to move, tie the case at the very top, is like you being inside a large sleeping bag.

I use them in an emergency. A couple of years ago, we had a fire in my apartment building and, of course, the carrier was buried in the closet :-) As it turned out the cat was quite happy, and did go to sleep. However, they are not allowed as a carrier in airplanes. So if you are just taking the cat to the vet or another house it's alright.

It is a last resort, yes. It doesn't hurt to run up to Walmart, and buy a $15 cat carrier though.
Also, a decent sized cardboard box would be suitable for quick trips, as well.
Pillow cases are only to be used for a quick trip to the vet's. Not to be used for very long.

what!?!?! NO! If you care about your pet, get a carrier. Be responsible or don't have a pet...would YOU want to be carried around in a pillowcase, especially if you didn't understand what was happening?

It would only be a good idea if you were trying to kill your animal, which I strongly advise against. There are laws against animal cruelty and I am sure that putting a cat in a pillow case would fall somewhere under them. Are you sure your neighbor wasn't joking?
