I can't count the # of times I've heard people praise god for their financial success. Capitalism is a fairly Darwinian system and I doubt that it can be reconciled with religion. That's probably why Jesus said "render unto to Caesar what is Caesar's"

Randy - I was using Darwinism as an analogy. Don't get cute. Why are people on Yahoo so captious?

I agree that it is distasteful ... Jesus never promised financial success & prosperity to all of his followers. In fact, he promised the way would be difficult ... as it was with Paul.

Financial success or lack thereof, is no indication of God's pleasure or displeasure with a person, in my opinion.

Promised financial prosperity is a pretty shallow reason to become a Christian as well.

The point is to secure a healthy harvest and be allowed to sit by the fire at dinner time. The two have been one since the dawn of language.

ps capitalism is preservation of privelidge. This is older than language.

In fact, some sociologists claim that capitalism is a creation of christianism. Protestants, under the commands of the priests, never keeped cash at home. but instead of donating to the church, some of them started to keep them in the banks. That way, they obeyed "god's will", and serve their needs at the same time..

Let me just say this. If God watches over his creation and supplies their needs? Are not the jobs we work at because of the open door he gave us and therefore the money we get working this job? He is more than worthy of praise. He supplies for all my needs as well as others.

Yes I think you're right. It's sad because a lot of socially conscious types seem to be scared away from religion by all the right wing capitalist conservative Christians.

Maybe for those TV evangelists it started off as being about religion but today it's all about money & power.
