check out the website "singapore expats". Singapore is a cosmo city, as long as you behave civilly, you are fine.
Just don't bring the "America is the best" attitude over, and respect others' culture. Some Americans are loud and ignorant about others culture, so be open to the fact that Singapore is multi-culture, multi-language, race and religion.
Singapore is also a food and shopping haven, although it may not be familiar, be willing to at least try the food and mix along with locals.
What you will miss most is space (it is a tiny island!). but don't worry, there are lots of sun soaked beaches and islands within a few hour's flight in other countries.
And remember, do not bring drugs, there is a death penalty for that.
welcome!

I don't have a checklist, but definitely get in touch with your Doctor, you will need to make sure your shots are covered and get any that you might need for that part of the world. Also passport, make sure it is up to date and won't expire while you are still living there. Drivers License, if you plan on moving back to the states I suggest you go get a brand new license like a month before leaving, that way hopefully it will still be good when you get back. (this was a major headache for spouse when we got back from Japan)
Make sure all business here is settled, banks, storage, outstanding bills. etc. also post office, if you know what your addy is going to be then go and leave the forwarding address.
The most important thing though is the shots and passport.
Good Luck and have fun. That part of the world is awesome you will have a great time!!!
One other thing, learn their customs before going....like what is considered rude etc. What we might consider rude here might be very acceptable there and vice versa.

I'm gonna tell you what NOT to do when you get over there: if you have a bad habit of dropping things, discarding willy-nilly, things like gum wrappers, etc. Make an extreme conscious effort NOT to do it in Singapore... anywhere, but especially in the streets... there are eyes everywhere and if they see you, you will be reported and perhaps arrested on the spot... don't even dismiss this as "folk-lore:" They mean to keep their little county clean of debris and they will NOT abide anyone 'littering' in their country. If you forget this and toss an item anywhere but the trash receptacle, just pray that you are near someone who will catch you and chide you with a brisk warning like, "Excuse me, but WE don't do that here, you'd best pick that up or I'll be forced to report you!"
They do welcome all tourists and are quite hospitable, but being a visitor or "new arrival" will not pass for an excuse... they probably think of Americans as somewhat piggish or slovenly, so if they suspect that you are one, they'll have there eyes peeled on you. Just be forewarned...they are proud of their multi-cultural heritage and are therefore quite tolerant except in this regard.
Also, do no trafficking of drugs or other contra-ban, as their penalties are some of the most severe in the whole world... you could even serve years in their prison system!
I suggest you seek "travel checklists for download" on Google or go to the airlines' websites...many have those sites of travel aids for the harried traveler with additional "tips and caveats!"
