It's for my boss - I know he likes to drink beer, but I have no idea about the type of wine he likes - what are some of the best? (not too expensive).

Falesco 2004 Vitiano

A blend of equal parts Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese grapes grown in the region of Umbria. Vitiano is vinified in stainless steel tanks and aged in Nevers barrels for 3 months before being bottled. This is a young red wine with explosive, luscious aromas. The wine has a wonderful deep, ruby red color with a wide range of organoleptic qualities. It is rich in polyphenols and balanced acidity. This versatile red is at it's best in its youth when the fresh fruit character is most evident. Vitiano is a perennial value.

Columbia Crest Grande Estates (Chardonnay or Merlot).

$6.99 at Trader Joes - $13.99 at a liquor store.

Make sure it's the Grand Estates as estate wines, regardless of the vineyard, have grapes from the same vintage giving a consistent flavor.

If you know he drinks beer, why not get him a specialty brew like Alaskan Amber or an IPA. He may not even like wine......he would probably appreciate the thought of the beer however. Just go to any liquor store and ask about the specialty brews.

I think a Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio makes a nice gift. You can usually find it for just under $20 a bottle and it's a very drinkable wine.
