God alone knows, but it is seriously addictive, don't you think.
Think your question is enough to give me a kick up the backside to get to bed. Thanx!

Well i ignored Q and A for some time i couldn't be bothered finding out what it was about and i had other things to do online and then one day i thought i'll have a little peep to see what this is about, i noticed the health category and found the answers and people to be genuine....then i realised there are a lot of interesting people on this sight and they can help me and hopefully i can help them and sometimes if i have a concern and i don't want to voice it to anyone i might come across an answer that speaks into my situation....i am housebound at times and it's a way of keeping in touch with people and at the same time be on my own which i enjoy (if you follow)..also i do laugh a lot at funny people and hurt with people who hurt...and maybe it could be life changing......oh no!! maybe i'm addicted or just sad.......why do you ?.....

At first I thought Yahoo! Answers was for bored losers, but somehow I got into it as well and it turned out to be much more than people just asking silly questions. I realized that it is a simple way for people to get some of life's ponderances answered, and also, some people have real issues where they really do not know what to do about their problems and the answers they get can really change their lives for the better.

I guess you are making two big assumption that may not be true:
a) Sitting and answering questions here is a waste of time..
well ofcourse if you ask stupid question and answer a question in stupid manner. This is place made by us only. There are people who seek answers seriously and those who answer seriously. Rest is like grass and weeds in lawn. Just to be ignored and cleaned when time comes.
b) Everyone is just sitting, doing nothing and answering the question...
not really..there are people you will be amazed to know that they are from professional fields, busy folks but enjoy attending to questions in certain fields here...of course seriously..
Now its your turn to decide where do you belong to..:-)

Intellectual stimuli. Everybody alienated, fearful. You'd think you'd want more human contact, this is as non gratifying ( to you ) as a phone call from a friend, in lieu of the friend you want to see.
That'll do for starters. Have an apple. Drink some coffee. Take a break, listen to some Bach. Live a little! Then come back and have some more fun in a form of exchange we're ALL not used to!!!

Because my husband is out of town and there's no one to talk to and it's better than watching the stupid boob tube and I'm worn out from doing yard work all day because my husband is out of town.
My - that seems like I might be caught up in some cycle.
Maybe it's just a waste of time but since someone answered my question about my washing machine I feel like there may be the potential to help someone else a little bit and that feels kinda nice.

Because we are all sad sad people that have no lifes. So we sit here answering questions about other peoples lives, who are equally as boring but make stuff up to make them seem not boring. But if there life wasnt boring why would they be sitting here askinng and answering questions?

Because we're bored. Because we're curious. And sometimes we just need another persons opinion.
And, there are some people that I believe we can really help a little.
It's a good thing to know that some people still care enough to give good advice, without being judgmental.
Oh, and did I mention the addiction?

We ask questions, because we don't know anything. We answer questions, because we think we know some things. We sit at the computer, because it creates an illusion of actually working.
