How do I keep my kids from taking off everynight? I teach them to stay at home when I am at work and when I get back they are always sleeping on the front porch. I lock the doors before I go, and they always close it without the keys. They are 5 and 6 years old so I cant trust them with the keys.

You should be punished, not your children. You need to look into low income childcare or ask a family member to watch them, see about after school programs, etc... you don't want someone to report you to child services for leaving you minor children unattended. For the record, they are little children, if you had taught them to stay in the house, they would be there when you got home and not asleep on the front porch.

You absolutely cannot leave a 5 and 6 year old alone in the house. If someone finds out , they will report you and you will lose your children.
Don't you have a family member, friend or neighbor that can watch them??? You'll have to find another job or find a way to have someone take care of your kids. You can teach them all you want, but they are children and don't yet understand the dangers they could be in and they need supervision. Your kids go to school, some schools have afterschool care or you can find out at the YMCA or YWCA or if you belong to a church, you can call your local church, some may be able to offer you childcare.
You can also go to the local Division of Welfare offices in your city. If you are a low income family or single parent, you might be able to collect welfare and also find subsidised childcare. Search the internet for Division of Welfare or Childcare development, and type in your city or state. I wish you luck and in the meantime, really try to have someone watch the kids while you're gone before something happens or you lose them altogether.

you shouldnt be leaving them on their own anyway, they are too young.. if somebody reports you for leaving the children alone you will be in a lot of trouble.... hiring a babysitter will be a lot less hassle than having someone knocking at your door... trust me im the person that knocks on the doors to investigate, i know the process.... get somebody to mind the children or stay home yourself.
