Patricia B has the idea ;-)

A Dog with worms *may* do that bum dragging routine, but there's other signs to look out for too, if it's worms. Then ye simply buy a decent wormer (Drontal+ is as good as any) from a reputable, on line, supplier. Vet'll rip ye off for about a 500% mark up, just to have some shop girl in a white coat hand them over the counter to ye.

As it is, it's more usualy their anal glands. Don't keep dragging the poor Dog to the vets. Just feed it a sawn off cowz shin bone now and then. The marrow in that will make the Dog sh*t good, old fashioned, white balls that'll turn to dust when disturbed.

May make the Dogs eyes water, passing them. But that's natures way of keeping those glands sorted.

In the old days, we used to feed Dogs right. They seldom had gland trouble. Cancer was virtually unheard of. Cutting their balls off was unthinkable. What the hell's the world come to?

It may be that his anal glands are blocked(the gland that releases scent), just takes a quick trip to the vets. May be a sign of worms(though apparently that's not as likely as most people think)or could be he just has an itchy bum and can't do it any other way. One of my dogs does it, purely for pleasure it would seem, the other has to go to the vets every few months to have his anal glands emtied, not a pleasant thing, but if not done they can become infected.

The dogs anal glands may become blocked or infected. In the wild dogs used to eat foods that bulked up the faeces & the anal glands would be expressed when faeces were passed. In the modern world they just don't get the right amount of fibre/bone to do this. Try changing diet & see if it helps. It is easy to learn how to express the glands if necessary (all be it rather smelly!).

Don't be alarmed. Your dog has been abducted and abused by an alien dog. As long as his/her bum rubbing doesn't cause bleeding all will be OK. However, six weeks from now, be concerned if you find 22 splinters of wood with 12 legs and big eyes running around your house.

It's almost certain that his anal glands are impacted - my old dog had this problem and it's cured instantly by a quick squeeze - very yucky. You have to take them to the vet the first time but then, if you're brave (or broke!), you can do it yourself. Actually it didn't cost much for the vet to do it every few months so I stuck with that myself! Good luck.

It's because they need their anal glands expressing. Anal sacs usually expel whilst the dog strains during a bowel movement but sometimes they get a little bit backed up and it needs to be done manually. A dog groomer should take care of this disgusting job for you, thankfully!

irritation is why they do this
there are two reasons
1 they have worms
2 the anal glands are blocked and need cleaning out

for worms the answer is to get tablets from the vet
for the glands the vet will clean them for a fee or you can find out how to do it yourself (peronally I get mine done by the dog parlor plus point nice girl does it )

Could be worms or if your dog is female it could be an early sign that your dog is fixing to go into heat. If thats the case be sure to keep her away from males. Good Luck

It is most probably the fact that their anal glands are full and they are causing discomfort. Take them to the vet and he should be able to show you how to squeeze them. In some cases they can get infected. It is nothing to do with worms.
