Where does it say anyone can or should talk to the dead? Mary is not alive and is not to be prayed to according to the bible. I have no trouble with Revelation. I study it all the time and I also read in it that there will be those that try to deceive you in the time of the end into believing things that are against what God said. Tradition is a dangerous thing when it goes against what God says is right. Given tradition or the bible, i will take the Bible every time as it has never been proven wrong but tradition has been proven wrong many times. Jesus can reveal things to people today but Mary? not on your life. Eccl. 9:5-6 says that when you die, you know nothing, zip, nada. No more hate, love, nothing more to do under the sun till Jesus comes back to take you to Heaven. See for yourself and do some of the studies at the site below if you want to know some real truth.

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever," Heb 13:8, and so is how He works through His people and with His people. God hasn't changed, but the church has changed the way it relates to God, the way it believes in His Word, and what it expects Him to accomplish. Remember, the bible was written for our instruction, 1 Cor 10:11
There is no place in the bible that says He would do away with the supernatural works He accomplishes, nor His communication with His people, nor the spiritual gifts that operate through His people by the Holy Spirit. The New Testament has extensive information on church protocol, the working of the spiritual gifts within that environment, and how the Lord moves within the lives of His servants. I don't see how anyone could accurately state that these things are not in the bible.
Again, God has not nullified those things, but man has nullified the working of God in their own lives through unbelief.
You cannot separate the Word of God from God. His word is true to this day. My faith is in the Lord and my trust is in His word.
To Christian_la: The bible does not add the statement, "With Jesus....the end of the prophets came." That was your opinion. The book of Ephesians 4:11-12 says, ""And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ." This statement is for the church now. The words saints here is not a Catholic thing. It is defined in the Greek language as sacred, holy, pure, and is a reference to the saved and sanctified believers in Jesus Christ.
To Mr. Mister: "For I testify to everyone who hears the words of this book; if anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues of this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part in the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." This statement only has to do with the book of Revelation and is a warning against any perversion in interpretation made by those who read into Revelations what the Holy Spirit never intended to teach. Research this in commentaries. This statement does not do away with the prophetic anointing on the people God chooses. If it did, there would not be the two prophets spoken of in Revelations that have not yet come but will be.

That is biblically unsupported. I am a protestant and I believe that revalation from God can still occur, and does. The last prophet in the old testament said that no others would come until the messaiah came. He came.
Now just because I believe it still occurs, does not mean that I will believe everything said in the name of God.
2Cor11
13For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 14And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.
Gal1
6I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! 9As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!
We must be like the Bereans and test what we hear against scripture
Act17
11Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

I think we need to make a distinction here. Of course God still "talks" to people. Every born again believer can attest to communication with God in various forms....He speaks to us in many ways.
I do not believe, however, that there are any modern day "prophets"....i.e., Joseph Smith being an example of what I would term a "false" prophet. Why? Because the bible, in Hebrews 1:1, explains to us how, in times past, God spoke through the prophets...but now, through His son, Jesus Christ. With Jesus....the end of the prophets came.
This does not mean that someone cannot have a word of "prophecy" from God. But no....as to being a Prophet along the line of Elijah, etc....no, I don't believe that is so anymore.

I agree.
It seems protestants can believe in prayer but not in another person's prayer. They can believe that God speaks to them but not that God can speak to priests or church leaders.
While the bible is important, it was never meant to prevent God from speaking. The Pharisees in Jesus time would only listen to Moses. They would not accept Jesus. Now protestants will accept the bible but not words from a church leader.
While I understand that it is difficult to put your trust in a man, they have done that with the bible. The bible is just a collection of writings. It is a good book to study but not flawless.
I have a problem with any religion that claims to have sealed the heavens shut.
Islam - Mohammed is the final prophet.
Protestants - Bible is the final word
Jews - Talmud closes the book of prophets
So if God wanted to reveal himself today, he couldn't reveal himself to these religions. They are closed for business and living in the past. Nothing can change now because God cannot instruct his people with further truths.

I disagree with your view of Protestants, I don't think most of them hold solely to the fact that the Bible is the only word of God and they so to speak worship the bible as God. That personal Revelation has completely left the Earth.
As L.D.S. I truly believe that Jesus has once again set his church upon the earth and that he speaks to the world through a Prophet. I know that they do not believe this, but as far as the Holy Ghost giving personal Revelation I think they still believe that.

I don't know who you are talking about, when you say protestants, for there are many denominations, after all protestant does mean all other forms of religions that are not Catholic? I know many many protestants that not only hear from God, but have other gifts of the Spirit, healing, tongues, , interpretation of tongues, word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge etc etc.
What traditions are you talking of, The traditions of God, or the traditions that rulers and leaders of this world have planted into its doctrines and beliefs, like the Pharisees had done that upset Jesus Christ so much.

Your view would be considered post modernism and I agree with you and I am a protestant. I believe that alot of books have been written that are just as inspired as the Bible is. The problem with our faith is that we tend to worship the Bible instead of God who is surely beyond anything man can understand and write about.

God did not stop talking to people. hahahahhaah
people live they're life on a daily basis, according too what God tells them.
Now, If your referring to prophecy, I pass. I won't discuss that. Prophecy ended with the last page of the Bible.
If that were not so, God would not warn you about adding or taking away the prophecies of this Book.
That is a denominational issue, I won't get into.
good Question.

Who said they do? We continue to try and live by Gods word even if it is not still being written. He did and said what he wanted to and all that information is already in writing. Those that hear voices and kill is not of the Bible or of Gods word.Remember "Thou shall not kill?" Those people are mentally ill. They do hear voices to hurt themselves or/and others. People should not hide or blame Gods word because they won't or can't take responsibility for their own actions.
