Try your hardest to wait 24 hours. Trust me....you don't want to get a dry socket.

I was told to wait 48 hours. I didn't. Needless to say, I now have an excruciating dry socket that has gone on for 10 days. As hard as it is, and I know, don't smoke. Dry sockets are very painful constantly. Getting the dry socket packed ups the excruciation until the medication kicks in. If I could do it again, I would not have smoked.

If you smoke you can get what is called a dry hole. This is not good and can lead to all kinds of gum infections. Just don't smoke while your gums heal. Believe me you don't want to mess with your gums or teeth. The pain is unbearable and very $$$$ to fix.
