Pretty much all you can do is tough it out. I tried the aloe and all of that when i got sunburn and it did nothing for me. And you dont need to be taking cold baths you need to be taking warm baths. It draws out the sting. Its gonna hurt the first few minutes but it will help some. Also try oatmeal baths. Rubbing lotion on the burned area (Be sure not to use any scented lotion.) Just tough it out if you have any blistering though i would definately go to the doctor.

If symptoms of severe sunburn are present, the victim should receive professional medical help. While awaiting treatment, he or she should not drink cold water, which can trigger chills. If compresses are applied, they should be dipped in cool or tepid water, not cold water.

If the symptoms of sunburn are mild or moderate, the victim should drink plenty of water to replenish lost fluids. He or she may then do any or all of the following:

Apply dampened cloths or compresses to reduce the heat and lessen the pain;
Soak in a bathtub of plain soap-free water (Soap can irritate the burn);
Gently pat the skin dry afterward - do not rub it;
Apply a soothing cream, lotion or another preparation approved by a physician or pharmacist;
Note that some preparations, in particular those containing benzocaine, can trigger an allergic reaction;
Note too, that certain ointments can retard healing by sealing off the skin from the air.
If blistering occurs, apply a bandage to prevent infection; and
If the discomfort warrants, take a painkiller such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

Sounds strange but - run a bath (between cool & slightly warm), load it up with tea bags & soak in it!
The tanins should help take the sting out of your sunburn.

Keep hydrated - water, water, water

Don't use creams - have a friend pick up organic whole leaf aloe for topical treatment (keep in fridge). After a couple of days mix it with vit. e serum to give your skin more ammo to heal itself.

Take ibuprofen to take the edge off.

Whatever you do - Do not get another bad sunburn anytime soon - You've made your skin even more susceptible to skin cancer & overall damage.

Hope some of these ideas work!

Aloe Vera is the best solution- I like it cold. I keep my Aloe in the fridge so that when I get a sunburn it is cold, and it feels great. I know you don't want a burn ointment- I had a pharmasist once tell me that burn ointments only hold it in and prolong healing time. Maybe you can ask a pharmasist.

Drink TONS of water. Go to the pharmacy and ask for over the counter pain-relief spray. It usually has an antiseptic with it a topical pain-reliever. This was my saving grace last year when I got burned bad. Also, it is OK to take tylenol for burn pain. If you have peeling down to raw skin, you may want to put some neosporin with pain-relief on it.

Take care.

Been there, done that. The pain of a sunburn is caused by a histamine reaction. Take an anti-histamine. Benedryl or something. It'll take away about 80 percent of the pain.

Unfortunately, wait about 5 days. The only thing that helped for me was, oddly enough, suntan oil. Buy it (OIL, not lotion) with a high screen ratio, and rub it on. It does reduce the pain slightly, but the real benefit is that it keeps the skin moist, and you won't peel nearly as badly.

Take either an anti-histamine or an anti-inflammatory. Apply aloe or vitamin E gel cream as well to the burns to keep it hydrated.
