The battle at the Alamo was one of the most impotant of the Texas Revolution against Mexico. The defenders were composed of some of the most famous fighters and statesmen in the US at the time. Seeing the Alamo as the key to the defense of Texas, the defender would rather have died than let Santa Ana and his troops take it.
The Mexican army overran the Alamo, killing all the defenders, and The Alamo became a symbol of the ultimate sacrifice for freedom, inspiring the battle cry for the rest of the Revolution: "Remember the Alamo".

When Texas was fighting for its independence from Mexico, brave Texans made their stand there and unfortunately were all killed. It became a symbol of Texas bravery and the rallying cry for future battles - "Remember the Alamo!".

On February 23, 1836, General Antonio López de Santa Anna marched an army through inclement weather, including snowstorms in mountain passes, against the Texas rebellion. The city of San Antonio de Bexar was one of his intermediate objectives; his ultimate objective was to capture the Texas government and restore the rule of the central Mexican government over a rebellious territory, as he had over the State of Zacatecas the previous year.

the alamo was used in the war between Texas and Mexico...it was important because the odds were against the Texans who were going up against thousands of mexican soldiers.
The Texans didn't have a snowballs chance in hell, but they still fought, lost, and were thought to be brave...which they were. And that's about all i remember from 7th grade history.
