What exactly is a "Jahova's Witness"? I hear different stories all the time that conflict with each other. I am a Christian and just curious to what exactly a JW is ... Is there anyone out there who can help on this matter?

My mom is a Jehovah's Witness and I was raised with them.

Let's see, in a nutshell, they don't celebrate the popular holidays because they are not Christian but actually pagen.

They don't take blood transfusions and not because of the risk of something that wasn't detected getting transmitted but because we must obey Jehovah and he says in his word, to "abstain from blood".

Jehovah is what they say God's name is and this is taken from the hebrew language and tetragrammaten YHVH or yudheyhuvhe. I just call him God.

Then, there is the thing about disfellowshipping. there are many rules a Jehovah's Witness must follow. If they at some point, decide not to, they will be disfellowshipped by the elders in the congregation. then, no other Jehovah's Witness or one that is studying to become one, is allowed to talk to them. They say that this is actually loving as it makes the disfellowshipped one come into a state of repentance in which he is allowed back into the fold, and this is necessary to save his life from eternal damnation.

These are some of the basics. There are many more.

They also preach about and look forward to a paradise after God's holy war on the Earth, mentioned in the bood of Revelation or Apocalypse as the Catholics call it.

Jehovah's Witnesses have a tendancy to make people very upset, with their practices. Some Jehovah's Witnesses have even told their studies to cut off all association with their friends and their family saying that they "do not love Jehovah and therfore are bad association" and "we are your new family" your "sisters and brothers in the truth". These and many other things that I have mentioned makes loved ones of the person studying to become a JW or one that already is, very angry and that is why you will hear two versions of stories. Naturally Jehovah's Witnesses are going to want to put themselves in a good light. But I warn you, as a person who has been hurt by them, before you get too personally involved with them, do your research, keep an open mind. DO NOT believe everything they say. They can be very convincing as they are very good debaters citing scriptures from the bible to bring people around to their point of view. But remember that they take the bible out of context and read into scriptures warping them into a new meaning.

If you have any more questions, feel free to email me. I will tell you the truth of what I know and I had 10 years with them even evangelizing with them. They have hurt people so bad that they now have ex-Jehovah's Witness support groups that meet regularly.

The efforts of Jehovah’s witnesses to approach people in public and at their homes are rooted in the Word of God. Jesus himself went directly to the people, and he instructed his apostles and disciples to do likewise.

The Witnesses’ beliefs, based entirely on God’s Word, the Bible, prevent them from falling into the trap of becoming a sect or a cult. They take a kindly interest in all other people, of whatever religious persuasion. No, they do not try to force these people to change their viewpoint. They endeavor to imitate their Leader, Christ Jesus, by presenting Scriptural evidence of the trouble-free Paradise that will soon be established on earth.—Matthew 28:19, 20; 1 Peter 2:21.

The_Momster says: "They have hurt people so bad that they now have ex-Jehovah's Witness support groups that meet regularly." "LIES" the reason for support groups is because they do not want to obey Bible rules, these people are disfellowshipped or apostates, A disloyal person who betrays or deserts his cause or religion .

Let's take a "poll" and get the opinions (of people) by asking specific questions.

1. Were any of you ever a Jehovah's Witness?

2. Did you just decide to leave without a reason?

3. Was there a reason?

4. Were you disfellowshipped?

5. If you were disfellowshipped, for what reason?
Here are some reasons one can be removed from
the Congregation, please choose one or more.

Some of the offenses that could merit disfellowshipping from the Christian congregation are fornication, adultery, homosexuality, greed, extortion, thievery, lying, drunkenness, reviling, spiritism, murder, idolatry, apostasy, and the causing of divisions in the congregation.

6. Or is it just because you hate what we believe?

7. JW's are in 235 lands & islands, we respect the flag of each country unlike most christian religions, Why do you think, the prisons are full of so-called Christians, why is it that so-called Christians are the ones that "burn, spit, step on the "flag" and show disrespect not only to the flag but to the country they live in?
I can think of a President of the U.S.A. that saluted or said the pledge of allegiance every day, yet He had to leave office because of wrong doing, and the deliberate act of deviating from the truth. So the saluting and pledge is not what makes you a good person, it's obeying God's Word, that does.

8. Is it because of people that could care less about
God's rules that are layed out in the Bible, you
people have 2 things on your brain,
Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses.

9. Why don't you people wise up and start acting like a
Christian, isn't that what most of you claim to be?

Amanda~Ashley,

As shown by the multitude of ignorant comments, distortions and outright lies, you will NEVER get the truth about Jehovah's Witnesses from those who don't know a single thing about them. The best place to get information about any person or group is directly from the source. In this case, you can go to www.watchtower.org.

I wish you the best in your search for knowledge.

Jehovah's Witnesses don't belive that Jesus was the son of God, they believe that Jesus was God's first creation but is not God, they believe that Jesus is God's most important creation. They believe that life ends at death and that there is no afterlife other than 144,000 chosen Jehovah's Witnesses who will rule the earth from heaven along side Jesus.

A cult invented by Charles Russell in the 19th century. They are heretics because they deny the trinity and believe in the fourth century heresy of Arianism. They deny the divinity of Jesus.

They don't believe that Jesus is God. They believe he was just a good prophet. They don't celebrate Christmas or birthdays. They are not allowed to give presents for either. They believe that the chosen will go to heaven and the rest of the good people will inherit the earth, where there will be no disease, poverty, crime or death. If you don't qualify, you will not go to hell, but will just be gone. That's all I know...or believe I know.

First of all, it's Jehovah's Witnesses. It is a religious organization whose beliefs are misconstrued many times. I am not one, however I believe that people should not belittle them because of their beliefs, especially when they are misconstrued. To find out what beliefs they hold, do yourself a favor and ask one of them, not the people on here who are not one of Jehovah's Witnesses. By the by, Jehovah is God's name.
