Why bother proving God wrong if He doesn't exist? Why fight if there is nothing to fight about? Why not just let it all fall apart on it's own? So, is it worth it to fight about nothing, or is there really Something to fight about or against???

I am actually surprised. Thanks for taking the time to relate some actual answers. The usual accusations are also intermingled, but I guess that is to be expected. It would be easier for some to believe that a kitchen table rules the universe than God.

Yes, icarus, it would, religion is man made, but God is not, so yes, do away with "religious" and go toward "relationship"

Maybe it's not that they are trying to prove god is wrong! Maybe they are just pointing out that men are corrupt and since all religions are controlled and run by men, one must assume that they may also be corrupt! Think about it. Throughout the world we have some of the most devout practitioners of religion, yet they kill their brothers and sisters in the name of god! You don't need to be an atheist to know something is terribly wrong!

"Why bother proving God wrong if He doesn't exist?"
Good question. I'm an atheist and I have no idea why other atheists are compelled to do this.

"Why fight if there is nothing to fight about?"
Some people just like fighting I guess. I don't. I leave people to their beliefs and I expect the same.

"Why not just let it all fall apart on it's own?"
That's pretty much what I'm doing. If religion is going to crumble it will crumble when people make a choice on their own not to believe it.

"So, is it worth it to fight about nothing, or is there really Something to fight about or against???"
Not really. I just mind my own business and live my life as I see fit.

Well, let's see. I'm not an atheist, but I'll step into those shoes for a moment and assume that God does not exist.

Even though god doesn't exist, religion does. The belief in God does. What do religion and belief in God result in?

Violence. A lack of tolerance. In this country, a gay person cannot be married because of it. People telling me I'm going to hell, people thinking they are superior to me because they think they are going to heaven. Presidents saying if I'm an atheist, I'm not a citizen or a patriot. Hypocrisy everywhere I go. Science being held back in so many fields and arenas.

So, yes, my dear, there's an awful lot to fight over and fight for. It's freedom more often than not. The freedom to be what we are and the freedom to learn what we can safely and while being respected.

Edit...

No offense dear, but you just illustrated a reason for us to educate. Invisiman's statement makes absolutely no sense, yet you accept it immediately because you agree with the sentiment behind it... I could rephrase it...

"They argue that Santa/The Tooth Fairy/Zeus and Athena/Flying Spaghetti Monster does not exist, therefore, he/she/it/they must exist in order for them to argue that he does not."

Now, does that really make sense?

I am an Atheist and I am not fighting anything. If you want to believe in god I have no problem with that. I don't try to change people or what they believe (that is the christians job). I think what most Atheist are arguing about is not god but the belief in god and religion. And I believe eventually it will all fall apart on it's own.

We fight to spread the truth, rather than to spread ignorance through stone age belief systems.

Recently, Bill Nye (The Science Guy) was booed off stage while giving a speech in Texas (near Waco), in which he explained why/how the moon reflects sun light back at earth. HE was booed off stage and told by the parents that he shouldnt be allowed to teach unproven things to their kids, when the Bible states that God placed the moon in the sky at night to light people's way... Is it not frightening that people still beleive this? Is that not worth battling against?

Atheists are just looking for attention. They're looking for the shock factor and love when people look at them differently and think "wow! this guy really doesn't believe in God!"

Bottom line is, if they were on their death-bed later tonight and knew they were going to die, they'd be praying their a$$es off and apologizing to God for being such ignorant morons.

Well then, Mr. Military, looks like your ignorance and ridiculous beliefs are going to send you to Hell for eternity.

If that's the eternal life you want, there's nothing anyone can do for you. If you choose to deny God and Jesus, that's your loss.

The bible is full of silly 'facts' and things that could not have happened. It's full of hypocritical statements and catch 22s.
But that means nothing to me. I know the bible has been re-written thousands of times and it was written by man to begin with.
That doesn't mean there's no God. It just means man is an idiot and tried to write a book as a way to control people and give them a 'guide' on how to live properly.

Anyway, I'm not going to waste my time arguing about God. I know God is real and so will you in the afterlife when you're screaming his name to come and pull you out of Hell.

Atheists encountered this long ago, and they came up with an answer, albeit a ridiculous one. Religion is evil. Belief in God somehow makes people evil. They blatantly ignore the fact that this country would not exist apart from belief in God (the Founding Fathers, hello!)

Well, for the most part the subject of God (as an argument) comes from evangelist Christians, who use sales techniques called "objection handling", which is standard in corporate sales organizations and religious organizations, both of which have priorities to increase income.

The subject wouldn't even come up if there weren't a profiting entity involved. Good luck!

Why do you think atheists try to prove God wrong?

I'm an atheist. I don't try to prove God wrong. That's like proving that unicorns don't exist. Most of the time, you can't prove a negative.

So to answer your question, I do let theist arguments fall apart on their own. I can't prove God doesn't exist, so why would you say I'm fighting against God?

Some atheists fight it because they have nothing better to do. Some of us however like me hate to see people wasting their lives on what we see as a misguided belief just like many Christians don't like to see people they think are destined for hell. We don't think he exists so it sucks to watch people wasting their time. We won't just let it fall apart because that's selfish as a good morally upstanding follower of God should know right?
