i'd like it medium-rare to medium...how long on each side (i know it depends on thickness so some guidelines would be great...) any recommendations on marinades/seasonings?

Get your pan really hot. Drizzle extra virgin olive oil on the bottom of pan. Carefully, place your steak in the pan. For medium-rare, I usually cook 5-7 minuts per side for an 1 1/4 inch steak. Flip, cook the other side. I usually use olive oil, sea salt, fresh ground pepper, garlic powder and onion powder as seasonings for my steaks. Doesn't overpower the flavor of the meat that way. Can also drizzle bourban on them.

Marinate you steaks at room temperature (not in the refrigerator) for at least two hours with bourbon, cognac or whiskey. Put McCormick's steak seasoning grillmates on both sides, press in. When ready to cook, put some olive oil in pan and let it get very hot. Put steaks in. Let cook for a minute or two (depending of thickness of steaks) then flip. Try not to turn more than once. It won't take long because you want the steaks to sit for a minute or two before you cut into them and that way the juices will stay inside since they've had time to cool off. When a fork pressed against the middle of a steak presses down gently, but not too far, they are ready. Good luck. Better to under cook than overcook!

high heat the entire cooking of steak
watch it well
as soon as it gets nice and grilled on one side flip it
and when that side gets grilled
you gotta cha a great steak
montreal steak seasoning from the grocery store is excellent
garlic powder
and some italian seasoning
the best would be to cook it outside on a charcoal or gas grill
get a pan for indoors with grill lines on it.
best steak would be a ribeye
dont be put off by a ribeye as it looks fatty before cooked
but that will just add to the flavor and tenderness

high heat is right, but do not use extra virgin olive oil, it burns at high heat, use like a blend. then add your steak , cook it like a few minutes on each side
