Start by hanging out with him and don't be too aggressive. He just broke up with his girlfriend and might still be a little hesitant to start dating another girl. But he won't have his guard up if you're just his friend. As you guys hang out more and more, you can get him to like you and he'll realize it. Also, it's a good sign if he'll willing to hang out with you a lot even if he doesn't say he likes you. He'll get attach to you as time goes on.

I really wish that people would stop asking this question. Girls you live in the twenty-first century. We are not longer tied done by our "traditional" roles as mink, naive, creature who require the protection of a man. If you like a guy and he is not dating anyone than walk up to him and ask him to a movie before someone else comes along and does it for you.

How long have they been broken up... cause you should wait at least a few days before you go for it.
He might not be into another relationship if they were pretty serious, but it's all on you at this point. I say make the first move.

Just walk up to him and say, "Hey I heard that you broke up with so and so. Is that true?" And, have him tell you all about it. He might feel a little defensive about it, but just make him feel comfortable and that you care, and soon, he'll be asking you out instead.

Go for it. Attack. I think girls like a guy to be kind of dik and act like he does not care, as where guys (me included) like aggressive women. Besides, you'll never know if you don't try. Good luck.

well you dont know till you try but why did he break up with her or better yet go out with her if he knew you liked him..i say take a chance but be careful just in case hes a player-heartbreaks arent any fun...
