First off not everyone on here are Christians. Furthermore reilgiouis folks always seem to be eager to convert while on here and mock athestis so I think the agnositc and atheists like to do the same.

As an atheist, I am still able to hold a conversation. I am still interested in learning things. Why do Christians seem to be the only ones who are offended by an atheist posting here. Religion is a part of culture, knowledge is always good, with knowledge comes understanding and with understanding comes tolerance. I am not going to change my mind about my beliefs, this is a forum to ask questions, if you don't want opinions that differ from yours why bother asking a question. I am not trying to move anyone or convince that there is no God, I am only giving them a different view point and getting one myself.

I think Icarus's explanation is the most hypocritical thing I've read today. Isn't that EXACTLY what Christians feel their duty is? To enlighten people?
I'm not an atheist, but I DO feel that they have the right to post in this area as well. NOT believing in a god IS a religious belief, even if they don't always think that.
I DO agree with you about the fact that Christians aren't going to be moved by atheists' posts...But that's not who they're "targeting." They're going after people who are on the fence.

This is not the "Only if you believe in god" section.
I am an Atheist. I have read and studied the bible. I have attended Church. I have studied many different types of religion. And after all of this I made an informed and educated decision to not believe in god.
Now....why do so many believers tell me I should not be here because it is the religion/spirituality section? I can ask/answer intelligently about religion. Why don't I have a right to have a discussion about god?

Because we have a duty and a responsibility to challenge the absurdity of religious belief and to work towards a better world by helping to eradicate it. We need to bring reason and enlightenment to a world which is still in many places mired in irrationality and superstition. Above all, we absolutely must continue and build upon the efforts of those courageous atheists in history who suffered persecution, torture and death to bring us the freedoms that most of us take entirely for granted today. We cannot, must not, let the world slip back to the Dark Ages.
micber: Human nature - the good and the bad - is a product of evolution. Any feature of a living organism which leads to reproductive success tends to be favoured by natural selection, and you only have to look at the enormous proliferation of human beings to see that our nature has made us an extremely successful species. When we do good, we do it because doing good helps us to prosper, not because some religious zealot claims that morality comes from his imaginary friend in the sky.

I'm not an atheist but I didn't have to go to the spirituality and religion section to see this question, it was right on the main page. And also if you notice at the bottom of questions that you just answered there are other questions and not all of them are of the same category that you just answered. So when an atheist sees a question asked to an atheist I think they may be compelled to answer.
***********
For example I answered this question, submitted it and at the bottom of the page in a box labeled Answer More Questions (or something like that) was a question "What is your fave sex position?" I don't think that was in the religious section.

I'm not an atheist, but my guess is that he feels that his position is under-supported due to the collusion of peoples of other belief sets.
In other words, with so many people already practicing Christianity, Christianity is over-represented in this forum from a philosophical perspective unless one believes that merely by having numerous followers additional weight should be given to the validity of a specific belief system, which in traditional open discourse is not the case.

I'm a person with "special qualities" one would say, and believe me, we are not alone... if some people dont want to put a name to the face or the energy, don't, but don't ever say that we are here by chance: supernatural, angels, guides, astral entities... this is no junk... this is so real makes your head spin when you first get the chance to see a little bit more...!!!! you believe what you want, but I'm amaized at people who try to convince others that all of this is some sort of friggin' roll of the dice, there is so much more...

icarus62 where did you get the values of duty and responsibility? Seriously where were the values handed down to you from? You can't say that you were born with these values since people by nature tend toward wrong doing and need to be corrected continuously throughout their entire lives. The Bible teaches us that we are to follow the example of Jesus Christ. That is what Christians try to do. We try to do what is right. Sometimes we make mistakes. I think everyone makes mistakes whether they are Christian or not. Whether you like it or not the values you hold so dearly were handed down to you through the values taught by various different religions.

For one thing, we're here because you asked us. (But you misspelled "atheist.")
For another thing, why shouldn't atheists have opinions on religion? After all, everybody else does.
Finally: While I profess no religion myself, I still cannot escape the effects of religious belief on my life and on the world, and I think many (if not most) of those effects are harmful. Therefore, I have a duty to myself, to make my views known and to challenge believers for proof that they're right and I'm wrong.
And have you heard some of the lies that believers spread about nonbelievers? -- It's not to be borne!
