Some of these idiots think that the U S Army is a social club,
which it is not and then they find out military is not a bed of roses.

Some people join the military to go to college, and some join without knowing what they're getting into. The real purpose is to fight and defend our country. Now that our military men are really fighting I can understand the AOL. Some did not join the military to fight, but school.

Most go AWOL because they were not taught how to be a man and stick to your word. I knew more people who went AWOL in peacetime than now.
Going AWOL because of a deployment, well, that is just another excuse for cowards who were looking for a way out anyway. So they throw the blanket over their heads, run back to mom/grandma/girlfriend, and lie to themselves some more.
They are all losers for life no matter what job they manage to con their way into.
Because at the end of the day, when people find out you deserted the military, they may tell you to your face one thing, but in the back of their minds they are looking at you as a worthless unreliable turd. Which you ultimately are.

I would guess they joined the military because of the financial benefits or because they wanted their college tuition paid for. When they actually got into some situations, they could not mentally handle. There are some individuals who just can not cope with the military life.

Some people don't realize what it means to be in the Military. They don't think they're going to have to go to war. It's human to freak out and run. It's a part of the "fight or flight" response. Some people decide to fight, some decide to flee.

Unfortunately, a lot of people who enlist in the military do so for an education.
