You've indirectly touched on the single greatest reason why legalizing illegals without securing the borders is a ludicrous idea.
The answer to your question is "No." Once you legalize workers, they will have standing to demand legal wages, benefits, and working conditions.
Once legalized illegals demand legal wages, benefits, and working conditions, they will be quietly terminated at the first opportunity because the people who hire illegal immigrants don't want to give legal wages, benefits, and working conditions----that why they hired illegal immigrants in the first place.
The legalized illegals will be out of work and on welfare.
Within 6 to 18 months, virtually all of the legalized illegals will be replaced on crappy jobs by a new wave of illegal illegal immigrants.
Bottom line: If you legalize illegals without securing the border, you don't solve the problem----you double it.
Solution: Secure the border; treat the immigrants here fairly and respectfully. That's harder said than done. It will be difficult to balance their interests against the interest of others, like those they displace in the workplace.

If the aliens were made legal, then they would want a fair wage. The new aliens who come for the amnesty after this one will take the cheap wages for now.
Did you know illegals only make up about 7% of our workforce? Gee, wonder how we'll do without them.
The majority of people coming here from south of the border are obese, including the kids.

As soon as these laborers become legal, they move on to other, better jobs (Wouldn't you?).
They are then replaced by a new crop of illegals and the cycle starts anew. The net result is that nothing changes.
Amazing, eh?

what a redneck question. And very misguided at that. They are working the jobs that Americans would rather collect unemployment for. Someone has to do it! And I'm sure once they become citizens, then they will have to declare thier wages.

It's not the first generation that people have to worry about taking jobs. It's the second and later generations. There are former Mexicans complaining now that illegal immigrant Mexicans are taking their jobs!

I know what you mean. Most of them make better than decent money here. Too many people have their minds closed to reality when whining about the cause of the poor illegals. They just believe what they are told, but I believe what I see.

Good point. With their rapidly increasing numbers, there will be increased competition for the unskilled labor out there, and they will work cheaper and cheaper if still illegal, or there will be more and more unemployed if they become citizens. Either way the government's burden will increase and increase until it goes bankrupt.

Of course they wouldn't work so cheap, that's exactly why the gov doesn't legalize them.
