Line the glass with lime juice (from a lime wedge will do) This will keep the flies away. This is the reason why coronas from mexico come with a lime since most bars in mexico are open windowed and without screens

Small problem, yo! No, seriously - you can use a smaller wine glass with a smaller opening, and pour it only half or a third full - and drink it, don't let it sit around wafting it's bouquet all over the patio making like a bug magnet. And get some citronella candles to help keep the friggin' bugs away.

the most important component you want to do is discover the foodstuff source and get rid of it. that is often rotting fruit or vegetables. freshen up any spills from the rotting foodstuff, too. it ought to take some detective artwork to discover the genuine foodstuff source. even as my mom grew to develop into unwell and unable to guard the abode, we kept seeing quite some those- interior the wintry climate. We wiped clean the kitchen, emptied out and wiped clean each of the kitchen shelves, no success. We post fly strips, bowls of vinegar, each of the abode treatments we had ever heard of. faster or later my husband went on a "hunt". He went right down to the basement and all started searching in each nook. He stumbled on a bag of potatoes that had probably been there always and had probably billions of fruit flies and hardly any potatoes left. It changed into gross. yet we threw them away and that changed into the top of the flies. good success!

I had a similar problem in Texas a couple of years back. I just started putting a coaster on top of the glass when I set it down.

well idk about into the glass but you could make a trap. put cider in a jar and a peice of apple as well. then cover the jar with saran wrap and poke holes in it with a pin. the fruit flies can smell their wy in cuz they are attracted to the smell but they cant find their way out!

Maybe you should invent the anti-fruit-fly screen mesh lid. Like an ordinary plastic lid, except recessed a little and with a plastic screen mesh instead of solid plastic on top.
