My son's kitten was returned to him yesterday and "Kitty" is really quite lovable, however, it has been a few years since I brought the dog and cat together. Of course, then they were both 2 years old and it took them probably 2 weeks to make peace with each other. I am wondering, how long for a kitten to make peace with the "old folks" in this community?

In the beginning (2 or 3 days) stay close by incase the dogs barking and the cats hissing scares "KITTY". I'd say in a weeks time they will just find Kitty's playfulness annoying so I'd say in about two weeks you and your son will have no worries

It's best if you give the newcomer his/her own room for a couple of weeks. Make sure the kitten has food, water, a litter box, and bedding in the room and that it's completely same from harm. Keep the door closed, and put a couple of towels or blankets that smell like the older residents in the room.

After a few days, take the bedding from the newcomer's room and place it where the older pets can easily smell it and examine it.

About a week after the kitten is brought home, carefully let the other pets into the room. Watch all three very closely and if any start growling, take them out and wait a couple of days before trying again.

Hope that helps and congratulations on your new addition to the family!

we always told my dog that it was baby every time we held it and it worked after about a year or so ( and this is no lie) our dog Cocan brought us a baby Bunny it didn't even have its eyes open yet. when he brought that to us nothing was wrong with it it wasn't even wet from his mouth. so even though a dog is old they still know. as for the cat keep the kitten in a create and let the cat smell at it for a while it will hiss and a all but after a while let the kitten out for a little bit and at night just create it until the older cat get used to it

Your smell is very important to your animals so if you can make the kitten smell like you then it will be more readilly accepted. Use your clothing or perfume, but not very much. Make sure you keep it away from other animals food to start off with.

Get a cloth and rub it on your kitten to get the kitten's scent. Place this cloth near your cat and dog, and do so regularly so they get used to his scent.. then introduce him.
