I have found God dependable
Learned to rely on true friends
Discovered the joy of giving when it hurts
Learned self-control
More time for music, friends
Have become deeper, more aware, more caring, less judgemental
Found many things worth more than money
Have been insulated from consumerism
Don't have to cut the grass (I have none)
Have become thankful for what I have which is a lot

I've learned many of the same things as you did.
Poverty has taught me the act of kindness. It has taught me to appreciate things. It has provided a focus on what it truly important. And it has taught me to become more frugal with my money and my possessions. I also think twice before buying something. And I now define necessities very differently.
